Within SEWI-ATD events, make more concerted/intentional effort to ensure everyone present is acknowledged with a smile and welcomed throughout the event. My experience being the only apparent African American person present at the scant number of events that I've attended is more cold than warm. I don't know if that was because of my race or if the facilitators were simply exhausted from a full day of work or some other reason. There are specific activities that can support this effort, but mostly this requires the event facilitators to warmly embrace every attendee. Be happy to see everyone (and try to stay in contact after events). If a facilitator is not up for being warm and friendly to everyone throughout the event, it's better to let someone else have this role for the day. Given my profession, I would love to be more involved with this organization, but I just don't think everyone would be excited to have me.
Thank you for starting this website. Please continue this effort for the foreseeable future.
