Using this system, we have conducted the blood

pressure control crossover study with amlodipine vs.

nifedipine CR. Methods: Patients who were not taking an

impact on quality of life and presents many challenges to

those diagnosed with the condition, due to a seemingly

complex daily regimen of self‐care which includes

interaction with multiple healthcare services. Education

is vital for understanding the importance of this regimen,

and adhering to it. Traditionally, education has been

provided to people with heart failure in a face‐to‐face

manner, either in a community or a hospital setting,

using paper‐based materials or video/DVD

presentations. In an age of rapidly‐evolving technology

and uptake of smartphones and tablet devices, mHealth‐

based technology (defined by the World Health

Organization as mobile and wireless technologies to

achieve health objectives) is an innovative way to provide

health education which has the benefit of being able to

reach people who are unable or unwilling to access

traditional heart failure education programmes and

services.

patients. To date some studies highlighted that

rehabilitation delivered from‐distance has similar results

of face‐to‐face one, confirming that telerehabilitation

may be effectively used to address the growing call for

improving home care. Despite these observations,

telerehabilitation is still few integrated into outpatients

territorial rehabilitative practice. Furthermore, the

current literature about telerehabilitation is mainly

focused on a single domain of intervention (i.e. motor,

cognitive, speech), with scant data about the impact of

telerehabilitation on global disability. Finally, the cost‐

benefit ratio of telerehabilitation, compared to usual

territorial rehabilitation or prolonged hospitalization, still

devices over the Web has garnered significantly less

focus, especially in the area of authentication and

security. In this paper, we describe a prototype system

called Glucoweb, which allows patients with diabetes

mellitus to transmit their self-monitored blood glucose

data directly from their personal glucometer device to

their diabetes care provider over the Internet. No

customized software is necessary on the patient's computer, only a Web browser and active Internet

connection. We use this example to highlight key

authentication and security measures that should be

considered for devices that transmit healthcare data to

remote locations.

Post‐Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is considered a

major public health problem in the U.S. due to its high

prevalence and high rates of disability associated with

the disorder. For thousands of veterans, PTSD is a

chronic disorder, resulting directly from military service

that causes substantial psychological suffering and social

disability. Barriers to PTSD care include poor access,

mistrust, and lack of benefit from traditional treatments.

This project addresses two very important and timely

questions. First, can telemedicine be used as a tool to

extend effective, specialized mental health services such

as, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), to veterans with

poor access to care? Second, does therapy delivered by

telemedicine effect the quality of care in terms of clinical

outcomes (PTSD severity, Quality of Life), and the quality

of patient‐therapist interaction (patient satisfaction &

communication)? By answering these questions, this

study will provide valuable knowledge for VA

researchers, clinicians, and policy makers. The study

findings will have direct implications related to making

specific recommendations regarding telemedicine

utilization to deliver specialized mental health services

for veterans suffering from PTSD.
