         <title>Telemedicine is a new direction in medicine</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>We already developed a telemedicine system using a</p><p>cellular phone and internet web site to monitor changes</p><p>in blood pressure and pulse rate in patients at home.</p><p>Using this system, we have conducted the blood</p><p>pressure control crossover study with amlodipine vs.</p><p>nifedipine CR. Methods: Patients who were not taking an</p><p>anti‐hypertensive ca‐antagonist other than amlodipine</p><p>(A) or nifedipine CR (N) were eligible to enter this study.</p><p>The patients in the first group (n 11) started A 2.5</p><p>mg/day. Doses of A were increased to achieve home</p><p>blood pressure less than 135 / 85 mmHg to the extent of</p><p>7.5 mg/day. If necessary, atenolol was added. After</p><p>achieving the target blood pressure, home blood</p><p>pressure was monitored for more than 6 weeks and then</p><p>A was changed to N</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>People with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) require</p><p>intensive follow‐up with frequent consultations after</p><p>diagnosis. IBD telehealth management includes</p><p>consulting by phone, instant messenger, video, text</p><p>message, or web‐based services. Telehealth can be</p><p>beneficial for people with IBD, but may have its own set</p><p>of challenges. It is important to systematically review</p><p>the evidence on the types of remote or telehealth</p><p>approaches that can be deployed in IBD. This is</p><p>particularly relevant following the coronavirus disease</p><p>2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic, which led to increased self‐</p><p>and remote‐management.</p><p>To identify the communication technologies used to</p><p>achieve remote healthcare for people with inflammatory</p><p>bowel disease and to assess their effectiveness.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><br/></p><p>Нeart failure (HF) is a chronic disease with significant</p><p>impact on quality of life and presents many challenges to</p><p>those diagnosed with the condition, due to a seemingly</p><p>complex daily regimen of self‐care which includes</p><p>medications, monitoring of weight and symptoms,</p><p>identification of signs of deterioration and follow‐up and</p><p>interaction with multiple healthcare services. Education</p><p>is vital for understanding the importance of this regimen,</p><p>and adhering to it. Traditionally, education has been</p><p>provided to people with heart failure in a face‐to‐face</p><p>manner, either in a community or a hospital setting,</p><p>using paper‐based materials or video/DVD</p><p>presentations. In an age of rapidly‐evolving technology</p><p>and uptake of smartphones and tablet devices, mHealth‐</p><p>based technology (defined by the World Health</p><p>Organization as mobile and wireless technologies to</p><p>achieve health objectives) is an innovative way to provide</p><p>health education which has the benefit of being able to</p><p>reach people who are unable or unwilling to access</p><p>traditional heart failure education programmes and</p><p>services.</p>]]></description>

MS fatigue can impact all</p><p>aspects of quality of life, including physical, mental and</p><p>social function. Fortunately, fatigue self‐management</p><p>interventions, such as 'Managing Fatigue: A 6 week</p><p>energy conservation course'</p><p>, can decrease the impact of</p><p>fatigue and improve health‐related quality of life.          <description><![CDATA[<p>In the last few years, due to limited resources, stroke</p><p>patients hospitalization has been progressively</p><p>shortened with the increasing shift of some</p><p>rehabilitation procedures towards outpatient settings.</p><p>This led to a high percentage of discharged patients who</p><p>doesn't receive an adequate amount of rehabilitation.</p><p>This was because of some non‐clinical factors, such as</p><p>resources availability, geographical location, age and</p><p>personal wealth. Unfortunately, the benefits gained</p><p>during inpatient rehabilitation are often not sustained in</p><p>the long term. Thus stroke patients progressively</p><p>decrease their activity level leading to functional</p><p>deterioration. To face these difficulties, telerehabilitation</p><p>may be useful to deliver rehabilitative treatments to</p><p>homebound subjects with no moving of therapists or</p><p>patients. To date some studies highlighted that</p><p>rehabilitation delivered from‐distance has similar results</p><p>of face‐to‐face one, confirming that telerehabilitation</p><p>may be effectively used to address the growing call for</p><p>improving home care. Despite these observations,</p><p>telerehabilitation is still few integrated into outpatients</p><p>territorial rehabilitative practice. Furthermore, the</p><p>current literature about telerehabilitation is mainly</p><p>focused on a single domain of intervention (i.e. motor,</p><p>cognitive, speech), with scant data about the impact of</p><p>telerehabilitation on global disability. Finally, the cost‐</p><p>benefit ratio of telerehabilitation, compared to usual</p><p>territorial rehabilitation or prolonged hospitalization, still</p><p>objects of debate.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>As the Internet begins to play a greater role in many</p><p>healthcare processes, it is inevitable that remote</p><p>monitoring of patients' physiological parameters over</p><p>the Internet will become increasingly commonplace.</p><p>Internet-based communication between patients and</p><p>their healthcare providers has already become prevalent,</p><p>and has gained significant attention in terms of</p><p>confidentiality issues. However, transmission of data</p><p>directly from patients' physiological biomonitoring</p><p>devices over the Web has garnered significantly less</p><p>focus, especially in the area of authentication and</p><p>security. In this paper, we describe a prototype system</p><p>called Glucoweb, which allows patients with diabetes</p><p>mellitus to transmit their self-monitored blood glucose</p><p>data directly from their personal glucometer device to</p><p>their diabetes care provider over the Internet. No</p><p>customized software is necessary on the patient's computer, only a Web browser and active Internet</p><p>connection. We use this example to highlight key</p><p>authentication and security measures that should be</p><p>considered for devices that transmit healthcare data to</p><p>remote locations.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Telemedicine services and projects</p><p>Post‐Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is considered a</p><p>major public health problem in the U.S. due to its high</p><p>prevalence and high rates of disability associated with</p><p>the disorder. For thousands of veterans, PTSD is a</p><p>chronic disorder, resulting directly from military service</p><p>that causes substantial psychological suffering and social</p><p>disability. Barriers to PTSD care include poor access,</p><p>mistrust, and lack of benefit from traditional treatments.</p><p>This project addresses two very important and timely</p><p>questions. First, can telemedicine be used as a tool to</p><p>extend effective, specialized mental health services such</p><p>as, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), to veterans with</p><p>poor access to care? Second, does therapy delivered by</p><p>telemedicine effect the quality of care in terms of clinical</p><p>outcomes (PTSD severity, Quality of Life), and the quality</p><p>of patient‐therapist interaction (patient satisfaction &amp;</p><p>communication)? By answering these questions, this</p><p>study will provide valuable knowledge for VA</p><p>researchers, clinicians, and policy makers. The study</p><p>findings will have direct implications related to making</p><p>specific recommendations regarding telemedicine</p><p>utilization to deliver specialized mental health services</p><p>for veterans suffering from PTSD.</p>]]></description>
