An example of change I think of is hospitality within the region. Hospitality is a market which is constantly changing, with new trends to adapt to and follow etc.
If a cafe or restaurant falls behind the trends of the current market it is hard for the business to redeem itself.
Changes like market trends are inevitable and in this specific line of work change is required to succeed.

One change that almost all businesses have done is to have a website.
Occasionally I come across mainly local businesses that don't and its very frustrating trying to find out more information about them. Some may just have a facebook page which is fine if you have facebook , but as some people dont - I think a website is vital for any business to keep up with the times and get there business out into the public and for the business to be as successful as they can be.

DEKA was a good example of a company that failed due to not changing successfully. Lasting around ten years, the company failed due to fierce competition and ongoing trading losses. Both of which perhaps could have been prevented by changing or restructuring their internal functions to better understand and address consumer needs, and if the change was planned and implemented at the first sign of trouble as well.

Change or not to change
An interesting example is to look at Blockbuster and Netflix. Blockbuster was a multinational company that dominated the market of renting and selling movies and series. In the late 90' Netflix started as a rental of DVD through mail in the US only. It rapidly became a competitor for Blockbuster who did not see Netflix as a competitor. In October of 2000, Netflix offer itself to sell to blockbuster for $50 million and Blockbuster decline the offer. Blockbuster only launch their website and subscription model similar to Netflix by late 2004. By then it was too late, and we all know what happen. However, Netflix did showed a innovation and change because by 2013 they launch their first exclusive and self produce series, House of cards. Netflix found themselves with a lot of new competitor in the online stream service and realize that many of their product will not be allow to show anymore because their competitor will only show them in their own platform. Blockbuster closed its down in late 2013 and Netflix generate a revenue of US$11.692 billion in 2017 alone.

I think the most common and easiest failures to recognize is with technological companies. Two companies come to mind immediately and they are Blackberry and Nokia. Both companies were at one point in time dominating the cell phone industry. Blackberry failed by not listening to consumer demands and not realizing where the market was heading. As for Nokia (and Blackberry), they didn't keep up with the software technology and couldn't keep up with the apps that everyone was using when Apple and Android hit the market. Technology moves so quickly that you can't get comfortable and think the product is perfect, but rather what will the consumer want next or what more can it do.

The most significant change that I can think of is a retail store adding an online store. My work in particular is a good example of this. Before we added the online store we were missing a huge market. Initially it seemed like a massive thing to create the website but in the long run it has proven to be very successful reaching a whole lot of customers nationwide and even internationally that would never have been able to purchase from us. A lot of these customers purchase again which is impressive as even though they did not physically come into the store they were happy with the service that they received online. It is seeming that it is the way of the future and jumping on the bandwagon a few years ago has been great as it allows our online store to keep expanding at a time where there is more and more interest in this way of shopping. 2017 was a record breaking year on our shop and I believe that this year might be even better
