A person may show personal indifference when they walk by a homeless person and act like they don't see them and ignore them.

This is an injustice because they deserve to be treated equally and they shouldn't be looked at as lower than everyone else in society. There is most likely a reason for why they are living on the streets and something could be done to help them.

Some things we could do as a society is we could give them food, hygiene suuplies and clothing - not just money. They could be talked to as equals in society. We could ask them what we could to help them? They could be taken to a homeless shelter or a community outreach program. Lastly, we could volunteer ourselves to help homeless people.

Another way a person may show personal indifference is by reacting to a natural disaster, such as the current flood in Texas, with a comment such as, "That's too bad, but it doesn't affect me."

This is an injustice because it shows an indifference toward a global issue outside of the person's basic surroundings. People need to be more aware and care more about these types of things as maybe at some point it could happen to them and they would want help from others. These types of things do affect us on a personal level in some ways.

Some things we could do as a society is we could reach out. We could post about it and let others know more about what is going on. We could donate money for supplies or charities that are helping with the issue. Lastly, some people who live close to the issue could go to the actual site and volunteer and help out however possible.

One example of a local indifference is how some people are not concerned about the growing drug use in our community of Barrie. Overdoses affect not just the individual, but the people around them - first responders, families and community members.

This is an injustice because it shows an indifference towards people who are struggling with addiction. They deserve to be seen and helped. Everyone should be treated equally. People need to be more aware of this issue and try and help those who are struggling in our community. You never know when someone close to you may end up in the same situation.

Some things we could do as mentioned in the attached article is to call to action the government to have them provide services to assist those addicted to these drugs. Supervised consumption locations and voluntary treatment centres are just two ways the local government could help. We as a society could do many of the same things I mentioned in both of my personal examples: donate, volunteer and speak up.

A second example of local indifference is when there is an issue in your community and the town holds a public meeting to discuss it and not a lot of people show up to share their concerns. For example, here in Stroud they want to build a new subdivision in a farmers field. Many do not want this to happen, but many did not go to the town meeting and voice their concerns because it did not directly affect their homes. This shows indifference because they should care about what's happening in their town and help those who are being affected.

It's an injustice because maybe later on something similar might happen closer to them and they would want the rest of the community to come out and support them. Everyone should be focused and concerned about the issues going on in their community.

Some things we could do as a society is attend these town meetings more regularly to support our community. We could also sign online petitions to show our support. Lastly, we could even attend rallies or protests to support the people in our community.

One example of a global indifference is the issue of access to clean water for many Indigenous communities. This is a human rights issue as many do not have proper sanitation programs and therefore no access to clean water. Drinking unsafe water can lead to sickness and in some cases even death. In our community we just take our access to clean water for granted, we turn on our taps and it's there. We don't think twice about it and therefore many are indifferent to the issue in other parts of the world.

This shows indifference as many do not have any empathy for those who do not have this necessity. It's not their problem so why do they need to worry about it. This is an injustice as clean water should be for everyone. It's a human right. In Canada, our government should be ensuring that everyone in our country has this access.

Some things we could do as global citizens is donate to charities that drill wells and provide clean water for those without. We could protest to the government to help with this issue and ask them to provide better living conditions for these communities. Lastly, we could help educate these communities on proper hygiene practices and on the management and quality of their water resources.

A second example of a global indifference is the issue of climate change. Climate change is some major changes we see in the patterns of the environment, weather and temperatures. People show an indifference to this issue by thinking it is not their issue as they won't be around by the time it really becomes a problem.

This is an injustice because we can stop this and make it less and they should also be thinking about their kids and their kids' kids who will be affected by climate change. We should all try to make the world a better place even though we may not see the effects of it where we live. Everyone deserves to live in a safe environment.

We can take action to reduce our carbon footprint. Some ways we could do this by reducing our energy consumption at home and use more energy efficient appliances. We could walk or bike to places, instead of driving our cars or even better we could switch to electric vehicles. We could also reduce, reuse and recycle more often. Lastly, we could spread the word to others to encourage change in them as well.
