Stubborn

Mama: “Son, how come you talk so much ‘bout money?” Walter: “Because, it is life, Mama!” Mama: “Oh—so now its life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom use to be life—now its money. I guess the world really do change…” Walter: “No—it was always money, Mama. We just didn’t know about it.” (p.74)

This quote shows that Walter is stubborn because he is so persistent about money. Money has made him stubborn and not listen to others. His whole life is revolves by money. Before in Mama's time they valued freedom, but nowadays it has turned into money. Money has great power to change a person and that's what happened to Walter.

Determination

“Forget it baby! There ain’t no causes—there ain’t nothing but taking in this world, and he who takes most is smartest—and it don’t make a damn bit of difference how.” P. 143

This quote shows that Walter is determined because he really wants to open a store, quit his job, and be his own boss. He is determined to take the most out of the business. Walter believes those that take the most is the smartest. He ends up having lots of fights with his family due to his goal of opening a store. His determination becomes too much for Mama.

I think Walter is not a sympathetic character because all he has done the whole play was cause a lot of conflicts. I feel like Walter has good intentions with his goal, but approaches it the wrong way. I believe that Walter is not a good guy because he went against what everyone said. He promised Mama that he will split the money for Beneatha and Travis, but ended up going behind Mama's back and used all the money towards opening the business. He was very demanding towards Mama and his wife about the money, and caused many conflicts.

This art shows a guy going through snowstorm to get to his destination. Despite the condition of the weather he still goes on with his journey to wherever it is. This piece of art explains Walter because he will do everything he can to make his dream come true of opening the liquor store. Just like the guy in the painting Walter is determined to accomplish his goal no matter what it takes.

In the first stanza it related to Walter by him always having his pride in the way of things. In the second part of the poem it talks about how the little prince ended up loosing everything. That relates to Walter because his family kept telling him about the consequences of using all the money towards opening the store. Walter ended up being scammed and lost all the money and like the little prince he ended up loosing everything.

Lines 1-3 of the song go with Walter because his dream is to become a business man, but everyone else is trying to wake him up to reality. In the second part of the lyrics lines 12-15 relate to Walter by even though he's taking a risk he's willing to take it even it means losing everything. He did not think that he would lose everything. The Climb goes well with Walter because he faces a lot of conflicts and dilemmas, but it won't stop him from making his dream come true.

The theme in A Raisin in the Sun is it is human nature for family to go through struggles. The Younger family go through so much from dealing with the check to dealing with having unwanted neighbors. In Fences the theme would be it is human nature to want to protect the ones you love. In the move Fences Troy builds a fence with the fence Troy and Rose hope to keep the world out from their little world. Both A Raisin in the Sun and Fences have many things in common.
The themes connect by having to deal with family. In both stories they deal with conflicts about family. Both families are not very wealthy, but they do have dreams of their own. Walter dreams to be a business man while Troy dreamed to be a professional baseball player, and Beneatha dreamed to be a doctor while Cory dreamed to be a professional football player. The themes connect by both families always aruge with one another. For example the Younger's always argue about how Walter wants to open a business, and the Maxon's argue about how Cory wants to be a professional football player. Another example is the Younger's are having a hard time dealing with how to distribute the money from the check and the Maxson's have a problem with the way the live and their son. Both families just want to be happy, but they both will end up going through many obstacles.
