After the session sign-ups, return to this laptop.

Do the awkward 'So, we're a group' thing. Count to about 20 before someone takes charge and moves to ...

Take this laptop with you. Find a space where you can work together. You can use the breakout spaces in the building, head to one of the rooms from the workshops, anywhere you like!

Your task as a group is to:

Discuss the topic

Arrive at at least one practical response or outcome from your discussion. A problem solved? A thing to do? Be productive. (Stuck? See below for some suggestions.)

Debate. Discuss. Do. You have until 3pm.

You can use this padlet wall to keep a record of your conversations and outcomes. Easiest way: choose a scribe. Just scroll to make more space.

At 3pm, head back to the Forum Theatre. Bring this laptop with you. Yes, you will be asked to report back ... so pick a reporter now to save everyone looking expectantly at each other later on ;)

Corporal Punishment!! The naughty cage for not doing readings. The cone of shame.
* Calls on people randomly.
*Teach to skim read.
*Names went into hat, those people responsible to read in the most detail, they had to lead discussion. (But then they were only ones who read it). Was part of 10% participation requirement.
*Assessment structured around the readings.
*Lecturer gave 60% over 6 of 10 weeks on 2 readings reflective essay.
*Assign 'homework' task - an extra paragraph of another reading.
*Make them take ownership for their own work. For eg. Pick an article that is relevant to the class.
What if they still didn't do readings where do we go from there?
*Always be prepared that they have not done the reading - keep track of where the semester is. (After essay, end of semester) Have a backup plan. Give a paragraph from the readings, for them to discuss.
*Think like an undergrad.
*Tie activity to the reader in such a way that it doesn't matter if they have done the full reading or not.
*Skills teaching. (Like find the argument in the readings)
*Bring in objects.
*Prompt what we are doing next week/questions.
*Make your students laugh, use comedy, tie it with your readings and discussion. Use documentaries.
