An amazing and unique thing about Iceland is that extreme geothermal activity takes place underfoot all over the country. The presence of volcanic activity and the cold climate have given Iceland the nickname of "Land of Fire and Ice".

In the south of Iceland there is a peninsula, Reykyanes where a small village called Laugarvatn is located and at the edge of the city, there is a geothermal spa where you can see the most active volcano in Iceland and the tradition of this place is baking bread under boiling sand!!

And in order not to damage the environment with the escape of gases from the subsoil, they inject them into the rock where it mineralizes and forms rocks!!

In Iceland there are more than 10,000 waterfalls of all shapes and sizes and the most important is Gullfoss in western Iceland. In the early 20th century an Englishman wanted to buy land to build a dam but his daughter worked day and night to prevent it because the waterfall itself was extraordinary. In fact, Icelanders seek the balance between beauty and utility and out of 10,000 waterfalls only 10 are hydroelectric plants!!

What is Democracy?

Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. The term "democracy" comes from the Greek words "demos," meaning "people," and "kratos," meaning "rule" or "power". It is one of the fundamental principles of the United Nations. The key elements of democracy are: respect for basic humans rights and freedoms and regular elections by universl suffrage.

It's important to note that there are different forms of democracy, including direct democracy and representative democracy. In a direct democracy, citizens participate directly in decision-making processes, while in a representative democracy, citizens elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf.

Agenda 2030

The new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, is an ambitious plan to eradicate poverty and promote economic prosperity, social development and environmental protection on a global scale.

In 2015, all 193 United Nations member countries signed on to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to "create the future we want in 2030."

In addition to 17 SDGs there are 169 targets to be pursued over the next 15 years.

Magna Carta

The Magna Carta, Latin for "Great Charter," is a historic document that was originally issued in 1215 in England. It is considered one of the most significant legal documents in the history of constitutional law and political development. The Magna Carta was a result of a conflict between King John of England and a group of his barons who were discontented with his rule.

One of the key provisions of the Magna Carta is clause 39, which states:

"No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgment of his equals or by the law of the land."

This clause aimed to establish principles and limitations on the power of the monarch, ensuring that the king was not above the law and had to govern according to established legal principles.
