         <description><![CDATA[<div>Forcible recruitment by force of American sailors; one of the leading factors of the War of 1812.<br><br>Reason: (1) British were short on man power because the British gave their sailors low pay.<br><br>(2) British Navy was so large, numbering in hundreds of ships, they were physically unable to support full crews for each vessel.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>American ships were seized by the British. Most seizure occurred within the West Indies. <br><br>American merchant ships were trying to get to French ports to trade. The British, in attempts to stifle the Franco-American trade, began seizing the American ships which prevented the Americans from exchanging goods with the French. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Signed November 19, 1794<br><br>Treaty between Great Britain and United States<br><br><strong>Averted the threat of war</strong><br><br>Provisions: <br><br>1. Eliminated British control of western posts.<br><br>2. Compensation to American shippers for vessels and cargos seized by British<br><br>3. Payment of debts owed to British creditors by Americans (Article 25)<br><br>Article 25: "<em>It shall be lawful for the Ships of war and Privateers belonging to the said Parties respectively to carry whithersoever they please the Ships and Goods taken from their Enemies without being obliged to pay any Fee</em>".<br><br><strong>Failure of Jay's Treaty</strong>: Does not even mention impressment, the main issue. Impressment will continue until we declare war on Britain (through Jefferson and Madison administration).<em><br></em><br></div>]]></description>
