They used lighter armor instead, which means that arrows can penetrate through the armor and it kills the soldiers. This proves that there was a corrupt government and that the government favored the rich. This means that there was really bad government during this time and it was better to be at war because at least you weren’t living in the city and following laws.

In Document B, the Roman historian Vegetius wrote that because the Roman army started recruiting lazier, less loyal soldiers from Germany. Because of this, the soldiers became lazy and eventually would not wear their helmets and breastplates which led to the Romans losing battles. This proves that the Roman Army had military problems. Also, in Document B, in the book The Fall of the Roman Empire: A Reappraisal by Michael Grant, it says that certain citizens doing certain jobs were able to avoid the draft. This would lead to a shortage of soldiers and that is a military problem.

In Document D, the Roman Historian Ammianus Marcellinus says that the Huns were a very savage tribe. They were like animals and took no mercy on who they were invading. They did not care about the wrong they did. They invaded Rome. This proves that foreign invasions from ruthless barbarians caused the fall of Rome. Also, in Document C, you can see that there were many barbarian invasions between the year 395 CE and 459 CE. This shows that Rome was overrun by barbarians between these 100 years and would have probably destroyed them, especially because the Romans had military problems.

Rich people can bribe their way out of trouble using money why the poor people couldn’t. This made many rich people leave to not deal with the bad laws, and the poor followed them too. This means Rome was outnumbered when fighting against other empires. There were tax corrupters, and those people only wanted money for themselves so they lied and got money from others.

Political assassinations: Did you know that in less than one year, an emperor died for Rome. For example the document A said “Balbinus and Pupineus died from assassinations, they started ruling in 238 CE and ended ruling in 238 CE.” That shows that in Rome emperors die very easily just for really stupid reasons. Plus some emperors died from battle, that was because maybe they did not have armor and were suffering from it. That could have caused the death of some emperors.

( - Document A - )

- Assassinations on leaders was a major contribution to Rome’s downfall due to the lack of emperors that lived for long periods of time. Because of this, rules changed across different emperors, and assassinating emperors seemed to become more and more common since more and more people wanted to rule over the Roman Emperor. This was all an example of instability since the Empire couldn’t stay stable for extremely long periods of time with one living emperor who wasn't killed due to assassination.

Rome was at very low times and were struck around three whole times or more (I forgot if it was four+ or not).

In document D, foreign invasions were a reason why Rome fell. I think this because the invasions caused more civilians to die; this caused Rome to lose more civilians. Also, when the invasions occurred, most likely emperors were assassinated or killed in battle because of these invasions. Last, the military was slowly weakening, so with a weakened army, it probably caused the military to weaken more due to loss of soldiers.

In document E, Priscus states that the legal system punishes those who are poor when they break a law, but doesn't punish a wealthy lawbreaker, this causes social tension within the empire and causes violence between the rich and poor, this also makes people feel less loyal to the Roman government because they feel as though they can’t trust them. Also in document E, Priscus states that the taxes were severe, even in peace times, this means that the tax collectors took more than they needed and kept the extra for themselves.

In document B, the Roman military abolishes armor and drills, this makes Roman soldiers weak because they won’t exercise as much as they need to battle, and will be unprotected because they won’t be wearing armor which makes them vulnerable to enemy weaponry. This makes them a less effective fighting force. Also in document B, not all people are drafted into the army, this makes the Roman military outnumbered during battles because not all of the population of the Roman empire are conscripted and the military would be small.

In document C, many invasions from different areas of the Roman empire at relatively the same time which would overwhelm the Roman military and lead to loss of land, population, and products for trade, which would hurt the economy. In document D, Ammianus Marcelinus described the Huns as glued to their horses, this made them quick and able to pick off Roman patrols and supplies, which weakened Rome and its military.

In document B it says that the Roman army was very lazy and didn’t want to walk and wear heavy armor, so they changed to lighter armor, so when they got attacked, they would get defeated more easily because an arrow could kill them so that the Roman military could be defeated more easily, and they were an easier target. So then the military didn’t have enough people, so they had to hire untrustworthy German soldiers. So they died to other Germanic tribes.

In Document B it says the Roman army got lazy and started wearing less armor, and then none. The army did less drills, and the armor felt heavy for the soldiers. They asked the emperor so that they no longer had to wear it. This is important because a weaker army without armor will get defeated easier in battle, and more invaders can get in.

In Document E, it started that there were major economic problems in Rome. Poor people could not survive and starved. The rich used their wealth to get out of trouble by paying. This is important because it shows that average people in Rome were struggling and the rich were making things even worse..

In Document F, it says that there were natural disasters in Rome, which were a massive earthquake and a bunch of plagues. These disasters wiped out a lot of the population and caused a lot of physical damage to Rome. People who were already struggling were struggling even more. This is important because when something happens and most of the population dies and things get destroyed, the empire has to recover from it, which sometimes takes a very long time.
