         <description><![CDATA[<div>Square deal - a domestic program created by Theodore Roosevelt.(fair bargain or treatment.<br><br>Trust busting-  The manipulation of an economy carried out by governments around the world , in an attempt to prevent or eliminate monopolies and corporate trust.<br><br> 1902 Coal Miners Strike- strike by the  united mine workers of america in the anthracite cold field of eastern Pennsylvania. The workers struck for shorter work days in recognition of their union. The strike threatened to shut down the winter fuel supply to major american cities.<br><br>The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 - first of a series of significant consumer protection laws which led  by Congress in the 20th century and led to the creation of the Food and Drug Administration<br><br>Conservation of Natural Resources and Land-  conservation is the process of protecting natural land and returning developed land to its natural state.<br><br> Civil Rights-Washington vs Dubious-NAACP<br>TAFT- Du Bois  believed in self-improvement through education. though , he believed that first they must get rid of segregation. Du Bois criticized Washington's  acceptance of racial segregation because he felt that it only encouraged whites to deny African American. <br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> Payne-Aldrich Tariff- Act passed by U.S congress in 1909 in response to a call from republican pres.  William Taft lowered tariff.<br><br>Firing of Gifford Pinchot-, a close friend of Roosevelt, alienated  progressives within the Republican party and drove a wedge between Taft and Roosevelt himself, leading to the split of the Republican Party in the 1912 presidential election. <br><br> Support for Joe Cannon- Joseph was House Speaker from Illinois and chairman of the House Rules Committee. Cannon often weakened and  ignored progressive bills and  disregarded seniority in filling committee slots.<br><br>Republican Party Split- into a majority ''old rights and a liberal wing based in the Northeast that supported   the New Deal. Southern conservatives joined with  republicans to form the conservative coalition, which dominated domestic issues in Congress until 1964.<br><br> Loss in the Election of 1912 against Wilson and Roosevelt- Democratic Governor Woodrow  of New Jersey unseated incumbent Republican President William  Taft  defeated former President Roosevelt  who ran as the Progressive Party (Bull Moose) nominee.</div>]]></description>

Act defines unethical business practices (fixing monopolies and upholds various rights of labor <br><br>Federal Trade Act- established federal trade commission signed into law by Woodrow Wilson in 1914, it outlaws unfair methods of competition and outlaws unfair  acts  or practices that affect commerce.<br><br> Underwood Tariff-established a federal income tax in the U.S and (substantially)lowered tariff rate.(passed by 63 U.S congress and signed by Woodrow <br>Wilson.<br><br>16th Amendment- allows congress to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states on the basis of population.<br><br>Federal Reserve System- central banking system of U.S.A <br><br>19th Amendment- Granted women's right to vote(Women's suffrage).<br><br>Wilson and Civil Rights-. is A member of the Democratic Party,  served as the president of Princeton University and as the 34th governor of New Jersey before winning the 1912 presidential election.
