According to <em>Days of Sunshine Per Year in Arizona</em>, we receive about 296 sunny days. Therefore, having solar panels in Arizona can help power the electricity of homes based on all the sun our state receives. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Though this lesson, it will help students get a understanding of the sun, specifically its critical role in warming the land, air, and water around us. This is an introduction to the 2nd graders what the sun can do. They will learn to realize its functions that sustain our lives. Hours before the lesson, I will place two filled pans of water, one in a shaded area of the classroom and the other outside in the sun. <br><br>To begin, I will ask students these questions to get them going and have them elaborate.<br>When you are cold, what kinds of things or activities help you to stay warm? What helps you stay warm when you are indoors and also outdoors?What is the sun? Where is the sun? What does the sun do?<br><br>Since this lesson will be taking place inside the classroom, outside in the shade and in the sun, they determine and feel the differences in warmth in each area. They will need pencils, paper that they will have to circle the level warmth in each three areas (cold, cool, warm, hot). This will later be glued into their journals.<br>Students must answer these questions for the classroom, outside in the shade, and in the sun. How warm or cold does it feel where you are at?<br>Why do you think it is that way?<br>Is the heat of the sun helping to warm the area? Why or why not? If the sun warms people, do you think it warms all of these other things like rocks, grass, leaves, water and air as well?<br><br>Now the students will make observations of the water in the pans. Each one will come touch the water inside the pan, read the temperature on the thermometer, and answer questions. How does the water feel? Are you surprised by the temperature of the water, why or why not? If the pan was filled with leaves, would it affect the warm of those items? Before taking them back to the classroom I will be asking them for their own personal warming processes while standing in the sun. How are you feeling now? Are you warmer than you were 30 minutes ago? Why or why not? We would then go back to the classroom and have a group discussion on what we did and share some of the answers to the questions. Then we will close the lesson on reinforcing how the sun warms the land, air, and water around us. <br><br></div>]]></description>
