Paris, Banks of the Seine is a river where many of the historic monuments are alongside of. The Cathedral of Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Louver and Pont Neuf are a few of the monuments. The river of the Seine has played a role in economics and also in defensives since the early human settlements. The river would separate the aristocratic part of Paris, to the port and river transport was, dividing Paris into 2 different types of cities. ("Paris, Banks")

Snapshot: The Cathedral of Notre-Dame

The Notre-Dame is a cathedral in Paris. The construction of the Notre-Dame started in 1163 and was finished in 1345 which is more the 180 years after the cathedral was started. When the construction had begun, neighboring budlings had to be demolished because of how big the cathedral was going to be. The inside of the Notre-Dame has many very interesting parts. The celling which reach heights of 100 feet and the amazing artwork are just a few. The stained glass inside are stories from the bible, however few remain in the building today because in the 1800 a decision was made to redo some of the art because the style of art had fallen out of popularity. The history of the Notre-Dame is very interesting. Earlier on there was also some issues with the support system to be able withstand the weight (Sandron and Tallon 80-81). It was built as a educational place and as a church. It was used in 1431 to crown the new king of France, many royal marriages and is now considered point zero which marks the distance between Paris and other French cities. During the French Revolution a lot of the artwork and building was destroyed and many sculptures were taken from the cathedral. During this time of reconstruction, most of the artwork was redone and many things were added. In 2019, there was a fire that destoryed most of the structure in the cathedral. Only hours after the fire, many people had pledged 300 million dollars to the reconstruction as the Notre-Dame is very important to France and the world.(LeBlanc).

The Eiffel Tower is a global icon that reminds everybody of Paris. It was named after a man named Eiffel who was apart of the idea and construction process. Eiffel also was apart of the Statue of Liberty. When the tower was in construction it was the first of its kind. The tower itself incorporates many interesting styles. The Eiffel Tower symbolizes the city of Paris and the country of France.(Perales).

La Sainte Chapelle

La Sainte Chapelle is another church in France, like the Notre-Dame. It was purchased 1239 for a large sum of money. Its a example of the French Gothic. The art inside tells the story of the Bible. It was burned down and rebuilt. In 1846 they began a big restoration period of 20 years. It is now used as a museum and you can visit it today!(Garnaut).

Louvre

The Louvre started out as a high end fortress and was later converted into the museum that it is today! It was converted in 1791 to a museum. It has gone through many art installations and changes them every so often. ("The Louvre").

The Banks of the Seine in Paris is a UNESCO site because of the amazing monuments that you can see off of the river. I wanted to do this UNESCO site because I love the city of Paris and have been to some of these monuments myself. I got to learn so many new facts about most of these cites. I learned that the Notre-Dame was once a place where a king crowned himself king without getting approval. I also learned that the Notre-Dame had some art taken down in the 18th century because the style that it was done in wasn't popular anymore. I enjoyed leanring about all these places and cannot wait to go back to Paris and understand the history more.

Banks of the Seine Today!

Today you can walk, or bike this river or if you want to be fancy you can have a boat Italy. People love this river because of the amazing photos that you can get and the awesome views. Its a fun activity because its free of charge! It normally takes around a hour to see everything if you don't spend to much time looking at one monument (Browne).
