This is divided by characters. Among these are
 2 combatants, 3 royal air force pilots and also a civil ship in which is a man of approximately 45 years with his son and a friend of the son.
What this man with his son and the other boy do is undertake a rescue mission crossing the English Channel, but they should not do it since the government had asked that only civilian ships cede, not that they handle them. The adult disobeyed since he had lost a son who was a raf pilot and felt like crossing the channel to go on this mission was like a duty or something he owed to his son.
Then we have the 3 combatants, including Cillian Murphy who appears on top of his fighter plane about to sink in the canal. But luckily the 45-year-old adult and his civilian boat managed to rescue him
Then there are the other 2 fighters starring Harry Styles and Fionn Whitehead who are rescued from the coast of Dunkirk by a warship that was sunk in one night by Nazi bombers and submarines.
Then it can be seen that when Cillian Murpy is on the English ship that was heading to the French coast, he is traumatized and screams not to be made to return there. But the adult owner of the boat (starring Mark Rylance) says he will not give in and continues on his way to France, in which he witnesses the battle between the raf spittfires against the luftwaffe planes.
That is where the other two pilots who were still in the air were, since the character made by Cillian Murpy had been defeated.
And in this combat two other protagonists appear, Jack Lowden and Tom Hardy. In this scene the two are trying to harm the luftwaffe bombers and you can see how Jack Lowden is defeated and falls into the canal but manages to survive. Tom is still in combat but he had difficulties in his fuel meter and decides to follow a German plane as far as the gasoline.
Jack is rescued by Mark Rylance's civilian ship and joins Cillian Murphy on the way back to Dunkirk, where they would meet the characters of Harry Styles and Fionn who were fleeing from the ship that was sunk and leaking gasoline.
Then the movie ends with the fact that thanks to all the English lending their boats to go rescue the soldiers, they were able to exceed the expectations of rescuing 35,000 men (which Churchill had envisioned) and rescued more than 300,000 men. The only one who could not be rescued was the RAF pilot who flew following the Nazi plane, as it ran out of fuel and landed in a territory dominated by Germans.
