Medium of communication is a way on how to deliver message to receiver effectively. There are two type of communication medium that are physical media and mechanical media. Physical media mean channels where the person who is talkingcan be seen and heard by the audience. The whole point here is to be able to not only hear the messages but also to see the body language and feel the climate in the room. This does not need to be two-way channels. In certain situations the receiver expect physical communication. This is specially when dealing with high concern message. If the message perceived as important to the receiver they expect to hear it live from their manager.
Example of physical media :
- large meetings
- weekly department meeting
- up close and personal (exclusive meeting)
- video conferances
- viral communication or word of mouth

The second of the two types of communication medium is mechanical media. With mechanical media we mean written or electronic channels. These channels can be used as archieves for the messages or for giving the big picture and a deeper knowledge. But they can also be very fast. Typically though, because it is written, it is always interpret by the reader based on his or her mental conditon. Irony or even humour rarely travels well in mechanical channels.

Example of mechanical media:
* e-mail
* weekly letters or newslatters
* personal letters
*billboards
* magazine or papers
* sms
* social media

Furthermore, mechanical type of medium like more old school compare than physical cause they use standard form & pro forma, simple written message, and face to face which is common form of communication among staff in busy area.

Different medium of communication
Physical media
With physical media we mean channels where the person who is talking can be seen and heard by the audience. The whole point here is to be able to not only hear the messages but also to see the body language and feel the climate in the room. This does not need to be two-way channels. In certain situations the receiver expect physical communication. This is the case especially when dealing with high concern messages, e.g. organizational change or down sizing. If a message is perceived as important to the receiver they expect to hear it live from their manager.

Face-to-face communication
Face-to-face communication is any type of verbal or non-verbal communication where you are in the same physical location as the receiver.
Face-to-face communication is very powerful. You can communicate verbally with the words you speak as well as non-verbally through body language. It also allows you to get immediate feedback from the receiver so you can adjust how you are delivering your message if necessary.
Some examples of face-to-face communication include informal hallway chats, project meetings, annual performance reviews, and job interviews.

Written communication
Written communication is any type of communication that involves the written word. This can involve both formal and informal communications. A key distinction between written communication and face-to-face communication is that feedback from the receiver may not be immediate.
Although most of us consider ourselves honest and ethical, we're all human and can forget things we've said or misunderstood things we've heard. One of the major benefits of written communication is that it can be used to document what has been said or agreed to. It also can be used to clarify ideas to avoid misunderstandings.
Some examples of written communication include letters, email, contracts, sms, reports and intranet content.

Business Letters
The business letters are also an important form of communication. A business letter should be written in a formal way and in simple language without any scope for confusion. It should be polite and courteous but should also convey and idea impressively. Usually business letters are written on printed paper containing the name and address of the company along with the date and reference number. As business letters can be used for legal purposes also, these should be written with grate care.

Mechanical media
The second of the two types of communication medium is mechanical media. With mechanical media we mean written or electronic channels. These channels can be used as archives for messages or for giving the big picture and a deeper knowledge. But they can also be very fast. Typically though, because it is written, it is always interpret by the reader based on his or her mental condition. Irony or even humour rarely travels well in mechanical channels.

E-mail
E-mail is a good channel for the daily communication to specific target groups. It is suitable mainly for up-to-date and “simple” messages and where there is no risk of misunderstanding, E-mail is an important supplement to weekly meetings and the Intranet. Invitation to and agenda for meetings can with advantage be sent out with e-mail before the meeting, while background facts and minutes from meetings is well suited to be stored on the Intranet.
Intranet
The Intranet is of course one of the most used types of communication medium and a very important communication channel and work tool for you as a manager, but it is also your job to help your employees prioritise and pick out the information on the Intranet, as well as translating messages into local consequences.

Sms
Or text messaging
Sms to the mobile phone is one of the new types of communication medium and not a very widely used channel but where it is used it is proven very effective. Some companies use it as an alert system e.g. for giving managers a head start when something important will be published on the Intranet. The advantage with Sms is that it is fast. But it should be used rarely as an exclusive channel. Some companies use it as a subscription tool where you can subscribe to e.g press-releases.

For example, Internet is used by the customer whenever they want to book for a room or reservation. It is not suitable for the usage of internet just to order a couple of sandwich, that would be ridiculous. So, the customer can use SMS for lunch order perhaps. Next, Email is used when the customer want to asked complex question with the management mybe. So only the higher manager will have the access to the email and answer question which obviousely beyond the lower staff's authority. Two way communication system like walkie-talkie is used during an event to make it quicker among the staff to receive order. This low frequency device will allowed them to communicate easily in the premises and it also saved their budget and energy.
