As a FNP working in womens health and caring for pregnant patients, I have been very timid in my care for them due to lack of formal education.
I want to learn everything. I want to soak up as much information as I can, to learn about women-centered care, how to build healthy relationships with patients over the course of a pregnancy, and how to help women understand, prioritize, and value their own prenatal care. I want to know EXACTLY what is normal from what is outside of my scope, and how to navigate those decisions with my patient. How to present information and evidence without overwhelming, what is best done in centering vs. one-on-one care. I'm just excited to learn it all!

Lara Kalix-Crisafi Hi! I'm thrilled to be back at FNU after taking a 1.5 year break to have another baby and settle into life here in VT. I have continued working in L&D and have a strong desire to work with women in all stages of life, in order to facilitate healthier pregnancies and, hopefully, deliveries. I'm excited to learn how to better do that.

Throughout the summer in this course, I hope to learn what it means to provide the best prenatal care for mamma and baby. We've been taught that proper healthcare during pregnancy is the foundation to a safe delivery and healthy baby. I want to learn all I can to educate my patients on what to expect in pregnancy, what they can do to create the healthiest environment in utero for their little ones to grow, as well as offer remedies to the common unpleasantries of pregnancy so they can better enjoy this special time in their lives :)

Katana Ratliff here from Louisville, KY. Now I feel like I'm truly getting to the grit and grind of what we all crave from CNM education. I want to learn everything. I want to learn how to see the unseen. Okay I know that is far fetched, but I want to really understand what is at the core of becoming a great midwife and not just a good L&D nurse.
