         <description><![CDATA[<div>The teacher prompts the students to answer a specific series of multiplication facts using manipulates. For example, 5 X 1, 6 X 1, and 2 X 1. The teacher will collect the students answers and write all three problems and answers on the board. The teacher will ask the students what they notice about the problems. The students will develop their own "rule" (anything multiplied by 1 is itself). The students will test their method by solving a problem abstractly, and then using manipulates to check their answer.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The students will complete the google classroom M&amp;M activity. Instructions: Find a partner to work with. Obtain at least three paper plates and two fun size bags of M&amp;Ms for you and your partner. You and your partner will layout your paper plates and put an equal number of M&amp;Ms on each plate. DO NOT EAT THE M&amp;Ms YET! One at a time, you will verbally explain how you would calculate how many M&amp;Ms you have total. As you are explaining, your partner will be drawing a picture of your plates and M&amp;Ms and writing the multiplication equation. Once the first person is finished, change the amount of plates and M&amp;Ms on each plate (don't forget the M&amp;Ms have to be equal on each plate) and the other person of the group will then verbally explain how you would calculate how many M&amp;Ms you have total, while the other person is drawing a picture of the plates and M&amp;Ms and writing the multiplication equation. Repeat this process three times. Then, at the bottom of your paper, write why multiplication is the best way to calculate how many M&amp;Ms are total. Once you are finished, you may eat the M&amp;Ms!</div>]]></description>
