The ruler of the state of Zhou revolted against the Shang. The Zhou Dynasty became the longest-lasting Chinese dynasty. 

• Mandate of Heaven

This is the authority to command, which is said to come from heaven. The Mandate of Heaven was the justification the Zhou Dynasty used when claiming it could rule China.

• The Dynastic Cycle

If a ruler didn’t do his job properly, he could be overthrown by a new leader. This “right to revolt” led to the Dynastic Cycle, which lasted from China’s beginning until 1912.

• Inventions / Innovations

Many inventions were created during the reign of this dynasty. They began using ox-drawn plows, iron, and crossbows. In addition to this, they made large irrigation systems. 

• The Fall

A leader could be overthrown if he failed to rule properly. This included ruling by the “Dao,” which was the ‘correct’ way to rule.
