We all live together in our awesome little house in Rose Park. My extended family is my brother and sister-in law, their kids, a few psuedo-parents, and a handful of close friends. My brother and I weren't born into the healthiest family situation, but we have been able to meet people throughout our lives to fill parental roles and guide us into being happy, healthy, and kind adults. This type of family situation really helped shape my identity and values in life. I've learned that you absolutely can pick your family. The people who love you and want to see you succeed and be happy are your real family. This culture influences the way I talk, the way I dress, and a lot of my lifestyle choices in general. The skate dawgs are all super close homies and are always there to help you out. We get wild and weird all the time. We have as much fun as we can. We definitely value and respect each other by a few different rules. Our sleep schedules are crazy. We don't have to be nice to dipsh*t customers. And we definitely know how to party. Most bartenders around SLC know each other and bounce around to different bars throughout their service. Its a small community of people who like to swap bartending stories, recipes, and pointers. Being a bartender shapes my values by how I treat peope in the service industry. Its a fun job, but it can be really frustrating when people don't know bar etiquette. I love going up into the mountains and hanging out whenever I can. I like hiking, swimming, camping, floating.... If I'm running around in nature, I'm having a good time. I think that being a nature lover has taught me how important it is to respect the planet. There's a lot of humans on this planet that don't realize that there isn't a giant vaccuum picking up your garbage every time you go outside or that when you take out your trash, its not just gone. It just gets put somewhere we can't see it so we don't have to think about it. I try to be really conscious of my actions and how they will affect the planet in ways that I can't see directly. I try to limit my trash-- Reduce, reuse, recycle--, I compost, I garden, I limit single use plastics, I try to buy second hand, and I don't eat meat.
