Dear Kathryn Fitzmaurice,

I really enjoyed reading your book A Diomand In the Desert. It was a great novel and it was not hard to read at all even though it was a decently long book. I like how you made the book in the perspective of Tetsu so people can relate to the main character. You really made this book interesting and it made me want to read it more. I like how even though Tetsu was put in a hard situation he still had a good time at the internment camp. So overall I really enjoyed this book and I loved the message.

I would give this book a rating of five out of five stars. I give it this rating because I found it easy to connect to the character, and it put it in his perspective. I also liked this book because it also told us some history and it just didn't make up a story. So overall I loved this book.

Theme Paragraph

I think that the theme of this book is that you should make the best of your situations. In this book Tetsu was put in a very tough situation of leaving his father and his dog to go to a internment camp in Arizona with his mom and his younger sister. At the camp Tetsu didn't just sit around and cry all day because he had to leave his whole life behind to go to the camp. Instead Tetsu went out and made friends that were boys his age. He even joined a baseball team of boys his age and had a really fun time because he loved playing baseball and he didn't think that they would have baseball at the camp. At the end of the book he was even sad to go back home to California. This is why the theme of this book is to make the best of your situations.
