The drawing activity is a good practice to force students to figure out some very specific descriptive words that are useful for writing detailed paragraphs later. It is a logically organized lesson! As Frank said, focus on form! There we go!

These were fun activities to do with higher level students. Drawing is a good way to activate more kinesthetic learners.. maybe you could even get some modeling clay in there too to reinforce that. If you are working with a text more long term with a 'cast', you could have students create portraits/descriptions, bring in costumes (to associate with each character).

I like that you provided model character descriptions. To scaffold the activity a bit more, you could provide the model character descriptions with a breakdown of the components like a graphic organizer, with space for students to write their description with the model alongside it.

It was a good idea to have the students do a little bit of reading beforehand to see a model of character descriptions and how certain words are used in context. It was a nice touch to bold certain terms, give their definitions, and include IPA symbols to be clear on how to pronounce the new vocabulary.
I liked the idea mentioned in class about using a video clip along with the picture of the character to see more about their mannerisms since that was discussed in the mini lecture.

Loved the drawing activity! The approach ensured that there wasn't a pressure to be artistic, but instead represent the description--which is perfect.
How could you address making sure all students in the group are participating during this time?

You should have used the vocabulary as a chance to get the students to explain to each other, if they knew, the definition. Or get them to guess from context.
