As said in the article, animals have reactions to how you talk to or treat them. As an example, if you yell at a dog or wallop it they tend to put their tails in between their legs and lower their ears showing you that they are sad. When you come home from a day of work or school, they might prance around you barking and jumping up and down. Or maybe when a stranger or a new person comes to their territory they may bark and growl or they might be friendly. Some animals even pick up after humans and learn basic skills like the bird that shaped the piece of wire so she could get the treat. Or how a smarter pig could trick the stronger pig into getting it food. Maybe even the fact that a sheep can tell their owner apart from everyone else just by looking at them in a photo. These are all signs of intelligence and emotions. Animals all over the world are learning these skills like turning over, rolling, catching a frisbee etc. Even elephants can paint! No one really knows how smart these animals are cause we can´t talk with them one on one or experience what they are feeling. But what we can do is observe. Observe what they are doing that makes them so intelligence, observe what they like and what they dislike. We may never know what exactly they are feeling or how smart they are compared to us. All we can really say for now is they may just be smarter than we think.
