The novel is set in North Carolina in our century because it's a current book. It tells the story of an eighteen-year-old girl called Tessa Young and how change her life when she starts the first year of university.

 The main character's life changes when she meets Hardin Scott who seems to be extremely aggressive and a very handsome boy. Tessa fall in love with him and for this reason begins to change into a different person; for example she begins to change her behavior, go to parties, drink alcohol... As the story progresses,it's possible to know for what reason Hardin, the masculine protagonist behaves that way and the events he has lived in the past; which makes Tessa turns into one of his confidents and for the same reason it makes also that he begins to fall in love with her.

The plot of After has the ability of keep the reader reading the book for hours without stopping because the characters are very interesting. The most memorable parts of the story are Hardin's memories and see how a person can change if he lives into a bad family with a lots of problems on them.

One criticism of the book is that it can sometimes seem a bit repetitive and that it isn't for all audiences because it contains explicit sexual parts. All in all, it's one of my favourite books and for this reason I would recommend it to all those people who loves romantic novels
