For today, I&#39;d actually like to COMBINE lesson 10.2 and 10.3.  (We&#39;ve got lots to cover, and not a whole lot of time together to do it!:)</description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1.&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;Lesson 10.2 pg. 504-507&nbsp;</strong>....Read through and follow the formulas and step-by-step instructions (blue text) for finding or estimating area.&nbsp; Please post your answers to the Think and Discuss questions (pg. 505) in a Padlet post here.&nbsp; Please do Practice C for Lesson 10.2.&nbsp; You may use either decimals or fractions.<br><br>2. &nbsp;<strong>Lesson 10.3 pg. 508-510</strong>....&nbsp; The general idea here is that we can beak apart irregular polygons into rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles in order to find their total area.&nbsp; You'll need to be a good visual/spatial thinker to find the most efficient way to break the polygons apart. &nbsp;<br><br>Read through the examples for this lesson.&nbsp; Please post your answers to the Think and Discuss questions (pg. 509) here.&nbsp; Then do PROBLEM SOLVING for Lesson 10.3.&nbsp; If you're looking for an extra challenge, do Practice C for Lesson 10.3.&nbsp; It's a FUN one! ;)<br><br>If you want to...you may create ONE post including both lessons' responses.&nbsp; If not, I'll be looking for two posts from you:&nbsp; one for Lesson 10.2 and one for Lesson 10.3.<br><br>Any question?&nbsp; Post them here. &nbsp;<br>Have a great weekend, everyone!&nbsp; See you on Monday!&nbsp; &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Lesson 10-3<br><br>1) To find the area of a regular octagon by breaking it apart into congruent triangles if you know the area of one triangle you must multiply the area of the triangle by 8. This is because, there are 8 congruent triangles that make up a regular octagon. So if you know the area of 1 triangle the area of the regular octagon will be 8 times that area.<br><br>2) One way you could find the area of a trapezoid that has no right angles is by dividing the trapezoid into 1 rectangle and 2 right triangles. Once the trapezoid is divided, then put the 2 right angles together to form a square. Once you form the square, then find the area of both the square and rectangle. After you find both areas add them together to find the area of the trapezoid.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Lesson 10.3<br><br>1. A regular octagon can be split into&nbsp; 8 congruent triangles. When the area of one triangle is found, you can multiply that by 8 to find the total area of the octagon.<br><br>2. You can split a trapezoid into 2 triangles and 1 square or rectangle ,depending on the size, and find the area separately. Once all the areas are found, they can be added to find the total area.<br><br></div>]]></description>

If you know the area of one triangle, then you can multiply it by 8. This is because eight triangles are eight times one triangle.<br><br>2. One way you can find the area of a trapezoid is by breaking it apart into two triangles and a square. You would first multiply length times width to find the area of the square, then multiply 1/2 times base times height twice to find the areas of the two triangles.
