1.) Dear Mr. Henshaw, Grades 3-8
2.) I would use this for a bibliotherapy lesson on divorce and how to deal with the ramifications of it socially, emotionally, and mentally. It is appropriate because many children, young and old, experience divorce firsthand and are not prepared with the necessary coping skills. This book might give them some ideas on how to manage their emotions and thoughts about their parents. Also, it is probably safe to say that everyone knows someone whose parents are divorced, so this book could help them be able to give advice to those who are struggling.

1.) The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig, Grades 3-4
2.) This book could be used for a bibliotherapy lesson on making everyone feel included and not leaving others out. It is an issue that many students that age deal with as they are starting to form friend groups and make friends. This book is centered around a boy who is very quiet, so he is ignored. This is definitely something most students can relate to especially at a young age. The book is good for those grade levels because it contains many vivid well drawn images along with a story line that the students will understand. This book with teach the students how important it is to include everyone and how it feels to be left out.

1) Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes- PreK-2
2) This book could be used for a bibliotherapy lesson on including people who are different, as well as accepting and loving yourself. This text is based on a mouse who is going into kindergarten which makes it relatable. This topic is also good for children to see that being different is not a bad thing, and it should be embraced. It could ultimately help build students' self-esteem who feel different or weird.

1. Stupid Fast by Geoff Herbach, Grades 5-12
2. This book would be awesome to use for a bibliotherapy because it covers a variety of situations middle school students may be experiencing. One topic covered in this book is puberty. The majority of children in middle school are experiencing puberty and they often feel awkward and alone. This book will help students realize that they are not alone in their journey of puberty and that everyone goes through this awkward stage with it's many changes. Additionally, this book address the topic of a depressed parent. Although we hope no children have to deal with this, it may be a reality for some students.

1. I See Without My Eyes by Mark Brauner Hayward, Grades PreK - 5th
2. This book would be a great way to teach students about the different kinds of students they may come across in school, and that they're not wierd of different, they just learn differently then others. This book talks about how a young blind girl functions throughout her every day life and how she adapts to her surrounds. It teaches students about Braille, their five senses, service/guide dogs, and other things that the child uses to help her live and learn in school. It ensures that children are able to cope and help a student that may struggle with this.

1.) I am Jazz by Jessica Herthel and Jazz Jennings 2-5 grade
2.) This book would be a good option for bibliotherapy to help students understand a very sensitive topic. Introducing this story shows a real life connection, as Jazz is a real girl who is sharing her story about transitioning, and can help students who are feeling the same confusion. This book shares her story so that students may understand some of the coping skills Jazz has and transfer them into their lives. Students may also gather ways to accept students with different gender identities and difficulties. Bibliotherapy helps students deal with situations they are unsure of. I would use this book in a lesson about accepting different people in the community and understanding diversity.

1. "The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires, Grade 1-3
2. This book could be used for a bibliotheraphy lesson for when students seem like they are frustrated and stuck. It is an issue that many students encounter, even students my age! Reading this story to the students would send a message to them that they are not alone. Everyone becomes frustrated and stuck sometimes but there's always a solution or way to overcome the frustration. It shows students that every good inventor/creator becomes frustrated and will even quit or give up because they get so mad. It shows perseverance and that sometimes people just need to walk away in order to calm down. It gives a problem and solution, which would be eye-opening for students; especially since everyone goes through this.

1. "Ibby's Feelings" by Baaqia Uqdah. Grades 1-4
2. This book would be a great option to use for biblotherapy because it will create a great lesson about domestic violence. Ibby shares her experience through this violence in her own home and is a cry for help to readers. This is a very upsetting event that happens to children, so it is important for them to know about. It will help children realize that it is important to voice their opinions about anything. This could occur at any given moment without warning. This book not only helps children, but it helps adults as well because domestic violence from children is sometimes hard to notice.

1. Two Homes by Claire Masurel, Grades Pre K- 2
2. I would use this book for a bibliotherapy lesson on divorce because it can be a very hard and sensitive topic for children. This book focuses on what is gained rather than what is lost when parents get divorced. It can provide support and guidance for children on how to deal with divorce both socially and emotionally. Two Homes is an appropriate choice for this topic and grade level because it is a positive, child- centered approach to divorce. It is appropriate for younger children (Pre K- 2) as the main character is a young child who is going through the transitions of two homes, Moms and Dads, and Alex finds his place in both of them but realizes that whether he is at Moms or at Dads, he is still loved the same. It is also more appropriate for younger readers as it has more detailed illustrations than text describing the story.

1. The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, Grades PreK-2
2. I would use this book for a bibliotherapy lesson on being afraid to go to school and for a child to leave their parents. When children are first going to school for more than just 2-3 hours a day they realize how hard it is to be away from their families. This book focuses on someone who is afraid to leave their mother and go to school for the first time and the mom creates a magical "kissing hand" where the child feels like his mother's love his always with him. This is important to use on the first day of school when students may be nervous and they can talk about their feelings with others in the classroom and with the teacher. This text is appropriate for the choice of topic, audience and grade level because students at this age are just coming to school for some of their first years and are often feeling nervous and afraid to leave their parents. The books allows students to understand that their parents love is always there and that school is nothing to be afraid of!

1. How Do Dinosaurs Say I'm Mad! by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague, Grades: PreK-1
2. This book is a great book to use for a bibliotherapy on how children can calm down when they're mad. This is a book I actually use in my 4-year-old preschool classroom and it works! There are a few children in my classroom who really struggle with calming themselves down when they are angry. I read this book to my class once a month and we have discussions about what we do to calm down when we are mad. The book talks about how each dinosaur calms down for example, the book says instead of screaming and yelling the dinosaur uses his words. It also suggests taking five deep breathes, walking away and taking a break, etc. Now when my children get mad and they start to throw things or yell, I ask them, "How would a dinosaur calm down?" This gets them to step back and remember some of the coping mechanisms the book discusses.

1. A Mango Shaped Space by Wendy Mass. Grades: 6-8.
2. This book would be a great way to teach students it's okay to be different, not everything is their fault, and that it is always better to speak up. In this book, the main character, Mia, is diagnosed with synesthesia which allows her to see letter, numbers, and sounds as different colors. Mia struggles to accept the her synesthesia does not make her less than anyone else. Through out the book she learns to accept her synesthesia. I believe reading this book to students, especially one in middle school where fitting in is so important, would allow them to understand differences are inevitable. They make us who we are. In addition, through the death of Mia's cat, Mango, which she blames entirely on herself, the students can learn that sometimes coincidences happen. Sometimes bad things happen and there is nothing they did to cause them. Another less they could learn through Mia is the importance of speaking up. If Mia told her parents of her condition rather then hiding it, she would have been able to understand herself sooner rather then later. The students could learn the value of telling adults they trust when something is wrong or doesn't feel right.

The great part of this book is the fact that it teaches children that no matter what, their parents still love them. It lets them know that it is okay to have two homes and two different traditions and ways of living and that it does not impact the child's importance to the parents. This book is appropriate to this age level because it is a book that shows the positivity that can be taken away from a tough situation. It is written in a way that kids can relate to and understand.

This book would be a great way to inform others about autism, as well as a great way for the siblings of someone who has autism to be able to explain and express themselves to others how their brother or sister may do things differently than other children do. The pictures are a great way to keep the kids interested and the educational facts keep the adults informed and give proper "adult talk" to children and how to explain things.

1. Salt in His Shoes Michael Jordan in Pursuit of a Dream by Deloris Jordan, with Roslyn M. Jordan, Illustrated by Kedir Nelson
Grade 1-2
2. This book is great way to tell young children to never quit on their dreams or listen to what others think of them. This book was written toward the end of Michael Jordan's carrer and it explains how Michale was picked on by kids on the court because of his height. It discuss how it's not about height to do well in basketball, but about practicing and beleving in yourself to do the best you can. This is a good way to teach students to never give up on their dreams or stop pursuing them. It even teaches about not caving in or listening to people who say you can't do it. Also not giving up because someones says to you are not good enough to do well in a certaina area. A really good read for children!

1. Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers, Grades 7+
2. This book is a good introduction the Vietnam War from a historical viewpoint, but also contains themes that are relevant today. Over the past 20 years, we've seen numerous military conflicts in Africa and the Middle East that mirror Vietnam, and students (especially with how connected to the internet they are) will begin becoming very aware of these conflicts around this time in their lives. This is a good way to introduce them to themes such as loss of innocence, race relations, and some of the less glamorous aspects of war and relate it to relevant topics today. Some students might have family members who are veterans as well.

1. Unlovable by Dan Yaccarino, Grades: Pre-K - 1
2. This book would be a great way to explain friendship and self-esteem. It is about a pug named Alfred, who is bullied about his apperance. He soon meets a new neighbor who lives on the other side of a solid fence, named Rex. Since Rex is too small to see him, Alfred decides to lie about his appearance and says he is a golden retriever. They begin to talk every single day and create a special bond. In the end Rex digs a hole to get to Alfred. To both of their surprise, they are both pugs. This is a good way to teach others to be themselves and to not judge others.

1. Thirteen Reasons Why, Grades: High School
2. This book is a great way to discuss depression and common issues students face in high school. The book also is a netflix series which serves as another great tool to target the technologically advanced generation. The book is about a girl, Hannah Baker, in high school who committed suicide. There are 13 tapes with 2 sides on most of them. Each tape contains a detailed description of why Hannah committed suicide. A lot of the issues discussed are very common in today's society and led to Hannah's severe depression. This book allows students to connect with these problems and feel like they are not alone.

1. The Hundred Dresses By: Eleanor Estes Grades: 1st-4th grade
2. This book demonstrates bullying and being a bystander, and the affects that can have on a student. It also shows the importance of social justice and how everyone is different with their race, to the clothes they wear. It also talks about respecting others and to treat others how you would want to be treated. This is a perfect book for kids in elementary school because this is the beginning stages of these problems, so the earlier on in their schooling they learn about these problems the better.

It is from a child's perspective and they both realize that they have different things about them and are both good at different things. One child has Down syndrome and one dies not. Together they work together and compliment each other and help each other out.

I think children could relate to this book because it uses logic and funny pictures combined to tell the tale.

1. Rolling Along with Goldilocks and the Three Bears, perfect for early grades (k-2)
2. In this version of the Classic Goldilocks tale the baby bear is disabled and requires a wheel chair to get around, hence the title rolling around with Goldilocks and the three bears. In the story the family of bears leaves their house to take the baby bear to physical therapy. I think this is a really cute and fun way to introduce students to disabilities or help them to understand why a classmate might need to use a wheelchair. It is also very helpful that this is a very familiar story to young children that is used to introduce a much less familiar topic, children with disabilities.
