Using ELL teachers as a resource for content area teachers allows for collaboration. Parenting together, instructional materials can be made appropriate for ELLs and the general education students. Collaborating ensures ELLs are receiving the same education as their peers tailored to fit their needs. Using co-teaching opportunities allows for collaboration, taking an ELL teacher and general education teachers to teach a lesson together. Another way for educators to collaborate is through professional development. Allowing for professional development gives educators the chance to further their understanding of ELLs and other educational topics.

My Teaching Philosophy

Every educator is faced with the questions of what should be taught and how to execute their ideas. This is when a teacher’s set of related beliefs is used to influence what and how students are taught. This is the idea of an educational philosophy. Children’s needs and wants in a school and a teacher are important to consider. Every child has different needs when it comes to learning. There is a large, diverse population in each school. Each child’s needs should be considered and attended to. Children need a clean, comfortable, and safe environment in order to learn and grow successfully. In order to have safe and comfortable schools, there should be security measures to protect them while not scaring them. Bright, vibrant colors help create a sense of comfort and liveliness. Children want to have a fun environment to learn in. Positive messages on posters can help create a sense of a fun environment. Teachers need to protect their children in every aspect. In the case of an emergency, this includes preventing getting sick by keeping a clean classroom and preventing bullying by paying attention to their students. They are responsible for teaching children in ways that are relevant to them due to the diversity of students. Children require more hands-on learning, which should be individualized to the classroom of students, evolving as they grow and change. While it is important for teachers to teach students academically, it is also very important that they teach students positive habits. This includes how to deal with social issues, how to study, how to be organized, and even how to be a good friend. Children's minds are very malleable; they absorb information like sponges, so teaching them the right things is crucial. John Dewey was an influential pioneer in teaching and learning. A pioneer is a person who is original in thought, activity, or technological development. Education in the context of social, political, scientific, and technological changes influenced the way he developed his experimentalist philosophy of education, called pragmatism. His educational theory was based on evolution and relativity. Dewey used the idea of making and doing when creating a curriculum. He strongly believed in the scientific method when creating activities and for problem-solving. I plan to use John Dewey’s philosophy of pragmatism and his educational theory of evolution and reality in my classroom.
