    In adults the skin covers an area of about 2 square meters and weighs 4.5-5kg. It ranges in thickness from 0.05mm on the eyelids to 4.00 mm on the heels. The skin consists of multiple sets of skin layers:

    • The Epidermis, a superficial layer which consists largely of epithelial tissue
    • The Dermis, the deeper layer which is made up of connective tissue.
    • A third layer is also important for insulation - the Hypodermus.
