PART 1 The boy wanted to believe that his friend had simply become separated from him by accident. He decided to stay right there and await his friends return.

This quote is actually really interesting to me. It sort of just shows how in the world isn't honest at all. It shows us that in today's world being honest will hurt you most all the time. It shows us how unfair and how cruel the real world really is. the shepherd has gone from having everything in life that he wants and needs yet he chose to take a risk and it didn't pay off.

PART 1 When I had my sheep, I was happy, and I made those around me happy. People saw me coming and they welcomed me, he thought. But now i'm sad and alone.

This quote has a much deeper meaning to me. In my opinion, it shows how not all the risks you take in life are going to pay off. This is Santiago realizing this. So far in his life he has had a good upbringing but then he wanted to take a big risk, and it payed off he had his sheep and he was happy. He was happy with the life that he had. So when a chance at an even better life came up, why would he not take it. So far in his life he's taken one big risk and it payed off greatly, he became happy because of it. Now Santiago is realizing how unfair and cruel the world is. He has left his comfort zone and now he wishes he could go back. He went from a happy life to a sad and miserable one over night.

PART 1 This quotes comes after the boy gets all of his money stolen and he is thinking back on it. "I'm like everyone else - I see the world in terms of what I would like to see happens, not what actually does"

I think that this quote is actually very true for a lot of the people in today's world. I feel as if in today world there is a large abundance of people who want to push the problems out of the way and wait for other to take care of them. For example, in politics, many politicians will push some of these big problem aside and wait for other people to fix them or they stat giving these problems down to lower parts of the government.

PART 1 He sat there, staring blankly through the door of the cafe, wishing that he had died and that everything would end forever at the moment.

This quote comes after the crystal merchant tells Santiago how far Egypt is and how there is no way that he gets enough money to get to Egypt. I feel like this quote has more too it. It signifies how broken someone can get so fast. Santiago has only known about his treasure for about a day. yet when he finds out how difficult it will be to get to the Pyramids. He goes from someone who is enjoying life full heartedly to someone who wishes they could die. Also I feel as if this quote can show how when you hit rock bottom(which Santiago is at right now) they only way that you can go is up. This is shown on the next page when he says that he needs sheep.

PART 1 After a long science, he added, "I need money to buy some sheep. "

I am going to make a prediction using this quote. I am going to say that Santiago continues on his journey to the pyramids. Yet along the way he is going to be forced to slowley kill his sheep along the way. I think that he is going to attempt to try not to kill them yet eventually. He is going to be stuck in the middle of the desert with no food or water and just his sheep. He is going to be forced to eat one of his sheep for survival and I fell as if this will haunt him for the rest of his trip. I think that because him getting these sheep will symbolize to him that his life is turning more normal. So these sheep are going to mean a lot more to him as they show him some normality so he will refrain for killing them as that could take away the remembrance of his old life.

This got me thinking about how the treasure might not be a something like lots of gold but it might be something more like reaching a spiritual level that would not be capable otherwise.

Part 2 - "Every blessing ignored turns into a curse"

I feel like this quote can be true some of the time but also not all the time. When thinking of this quote I though about the quote, "The longer the wait, the greater the blessing. If God has you waiting this long, what he has for you must be great." I feel like most of the time when you have to wait for something it gets worse. The way I live my life I don't want to wait for anything. I think life to short to wait for something great to happen. You need to build your own greatness because no one is going to make you great.

Part 2 - "But the desert is so huge, and the horizons so distant, that they make a person feel small, and as if he should stay silent." I feel as if this quote goes to show how easy it is to silence people opinion in many ways. One of those is to just show how powerful you are. In many situations throughout history, there have been these massive powers that have control. No one dares to contest them because how could they. But once those few people take on the challenge of contesting, they begin to get progress. It just goes to show how many people in positions of power have an outer shell that the public sees yet honestly can't actually do their jobs.
