When your students have writing time, write with them. There are many benefits including:

You are modeling your own writing process
They take it seriously if you do too
It encourages them to be independent, they will be less likely to interrupt you if you are writing
It will allow you to create a personal writing piece to share with your students
It is an equity based practice, instead of telling them to sit and work quietly, you are doing the same with them
It shoes them that you care and take the assignment/writing assignment seriously

It is your responsibility to create a safe writing space
Share personal writing pieces with your students to show vulnerability
Model respectful responses when students are sharing
Respect students who do not wish to share their personal writing
Encourage students, cheer them on, make your classroom a space where everyone is being supported and encouraged
