Overview:
While Miss Solesbee is in Morocco, you will be here, researching a country in Africa! We will
present our research together after spring break. Follow the steps below to work on your project
with the substitute while Miss Solesbee is gone. This is a major project grade. Be sure you
understand what you are doing before Miss Solesbee leaves on March 12th!
Step 1: Choose your Country!
You may choose any country in Africa except Morocco. I would suggest you pick a country that
truly interests you. We will use an interactive world map to explore your choices today. Here’s
the link: https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/world/
Spend some time exploring the map and then come up with your TOP 3 choices for your
project. When you have your TOP 3, move on to the proposal.
Step 2: Writing your Project Proposal
Answer each question to create your Project Proposal. Then, post your Project Proposal on our
Padlet here: https://padlet.com/ashley_solesbee/es3wgfoz7ux3
1. List the top 3 choices you have for your project.
2. What interests you about these countries?
3. What could you create to teach your classmates about the country you focus on for your
project?
4. What are 3 websites you could use to learn more about your country for this project?
5. What are 3 questions (no yes or no questions!) you have about your country?
Step 3: Writing your Research Questions
You will write 3 high level research questions to explore your country. You MUST include one of
the following verbs in each question. Use a different verb in each question and make sure you
know what the verb means if you decide to use it.
-Explain
-Describe
-Identify
-Compare/Contrast
-Analyze
Step 4: Finding your Sources
You will be creating your own Padlet to gather your sources into a Resource Collection. Your
padlet should have pictures, videos, and websites that you can use to help answer your
research questions. We will create your Padlet together in class.

Step 5: Start building your project!
You will do Step 5 with your substitute while I am in Morocco. She will help guide you through
answering each research question you have about your country by using the websites you find
for your sources. When I get back, you should have COMPLETED research and STARTED your
product- which is what you will use to teach us about your country!
