Queen Sirikit’s husband’s life explains her role in the palace, her beliefs, and her life before and during life with King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It also goes into depths about the ruling philosophies and life of those constitutional monarchs of Thailand. The purpose of this book is to sum up the amazing accomplishments of King Bhumibol Adulyadej after his death, but since H.M. Queen Sirikit is still alive, she doesn’t have too many books that are specifically about her that are that helpful. This book provides range in my sources, by being a complete book, and allows me to see all the different points of views people hold on Queen Sirikit. It also contrasts Queen Sirikit’s royal fashion to her husband’s. This will be very helpful in making her life’s events much clearer to me.

Kolesnikov-Jessop, Sonia. “The Queen of Thai Silk.” The New York Times. September 28, 2012. https://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/29/fashion/29iht-fthai29.html

This article explains H.M Queen Sirikit’s influence on Thailand’s fashion from her classic elegant silk dresses. It goes into depth on the uniqueness of the Thai silk that she wore and how it became a very popular trend among the Thai people. Though it is one of the shorter sources about Queen Sirikit, I chose this source because it is incredibly relevant and it truly illuminates the ways by which the Thai silk gowns and Westerns stylings of Pierre Balmain made her reach the top of the International Best Dressed List of 1965. This is a reliable source, as The New York Times is a very well known source.

Fashioning Tradition: Queen Sirikit Creates a National Dress for Thailand. August 2003–Present Day. Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, Bangkok. https://artsandculture.google.com/exhibit/PAKCYBQmZhyTIg

This museum exhibit, from Queen Sirikit’s Museum of Textiles, a museum that she had made, gives examples of 15 dresses that H.M. Queen Sirikit has worn and gives a brief caption for each stating an event to which she would wear it too. This is very helpful because it gives direct pieces from the wardrobe of the queen herself that influenced the entire nation’s wardrobe. The pictures here will be very useful for all of the assignments in the museum exhibit. In addition, this source contrasts the different dresses based on what occasion the queen would wear them for.

Bedenis, Christine. “History and Examples of Traditional Thai Clothing.” Christine Bedenis. January 16, 2015. http://www.christinebedenis.co/2015/01/16/traditional-thai-clothing/

This source gives a history behind all the traditional thai clothing and states the different types of dresses a woman might wear with all the different days one might wear it and how it might be worn. This blog even goes a little into men’s fashion at the time. This is a very relevant and useful source for all parts of this museum exhibit because it not only contains pictures of the outfits; it contains in depth descriptions of each one. The reliability of this source is very questionable because it is someone blogging about what she has seen, though she did volunteer with the Peace Corps in Thailand for 2 years.

Fit For a Queen: Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s Wardrobe Created by Pierre Balmain. August 2016–June 2018 . Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, Bangkok. https://artsandculture.google.com/exhibit/xAJSA6Wcte14LA

This source is an extensive analysis of the museum exhibit of H.M. Queen Sirikit. While it does give examples of the dresses and influence they had, it goes more into depth on the history behind each dress and inspiration for Pierre Balmain to create these urbane dresses for Queen Sirikit. This source is appears to be the most relevant, helpful, and longest of my sources. It truly relates the Queen and her personal style to the outfits that were created. It even includes some of Her Majesty’s favorite royal hats and shoes to pair with these dresses. This source tells the story behind Pierre Balmain creating dresses he knew would fit the queen’s preference and their relationship along the path to creating the correct style for each dress, one of which ultimately became the Thai national dress. This is a reliable source as it is taken directly from Queen Sirikit’s museum.

Pakditawan, Sirinya. “H.M. Queen Sirikit and Thai Silk” . Sirinya’s Thailand. August 11, 2015. http://www.sirinyas-thailand.de/2015/08/11/h-m-queen-sirikit-and-thai-silk/

Another source explaining her influence and relevance to Thai fashion, this source continues to idolize H.M. Queen Sirikit like most others. This source additionally talks of the reasons behind her wanting the pattern silk fabric, being that she wanted to support and promote the women who wove them in the rural areas that she had seen. Though, the reliability of this source is questionable because it is a blogger and all the information may not be completely accurate, however; the blogger is half-thai and very interested in Thai culture, so it seems that she knows this information from experience.

“Long Live Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.” Pattaya Mail. August 12, 2017. http://www.pattayamail.com/news/long-live-majesty-queen-sirikit-182966

This source is in honor of H.M. Queen Sirikit’s birthday, a day in Thailand known as Mother’s day, where everyone celebrates their love for their queen. This article, with a very loving viewpoint, describes who Queen Sirikit is as the loving mother of the Thai nation and as a humanitarian and her work with Red Cross. This source gives a background on her life since she was a child and describes each of her substantial accomplishments. This is a very relevant source because it explains why everyone wanted to follow trends set by the Queen because of the good work that she did. It also appears to be reliable because numerous people use this website to find out Thailand’s newest updates.

“Queen of Thailand.” Proquest eLibrary. Queen Sirikit’s life and family. As she is still alive, not many other sources exclusively talk about all her accomplishments and hardships like this one. This source will allow me to draw conclusions about the inspirations for her clothing lines. It also is very relevant because it clarifies her importance as a queen. It will help me in making the timeline and analysis of her significance.

Davey, Lizzie. “ The Attire of Thai Women Through the Years.” Wanderarti. This is a very relevant source because it gives a background for each one of the new styles that emerged in Thailand and it’s correlation to world events happening at the time. It will help me to explain the true influence that Queen Sirikit had on fashion once she started wearing the traditional Thai silk dresses and Western style dresses. This is an art and travel blog that teaches about the different art forms. It may be reliable because she sites her sources in some sections, but it is also an unpopular blog so the information may not be entirely true.

When Queen Sirikit travelled abroad with King Bhumibol, she wanted to create a wardrobe with Thai styles to accurately represent Thailand. She assembled a team that created eight dresses that each incorporated styles the Thai wore, like hip wrappers (phaa nung) and shoulder cloths (sabai), with the modern Western fashion and a base component of a paasin. These dresses were now to Thailand what the kimono is to Japan, or the Sari to India.
