Party Size - The CCP was much vaster in sheer number of supporters, compared to the Vietnamese 

Power - In China, the power was highly divided amongst e.g. warlords, even with Beijing, as opposed to Vietnam where there was always a centralised government (e.g. the French, the Japanese)

Cooperation - In China, up until 1927, the communists and nationalists worked together to fight the warlords, unlike in Vietnam.

Country Size - China as a land mass was immense, much larger than Vietnam.
