Some of the grandest of dragons were made around that time, to bring good luck for the new year and the coming summer. (206 B.C. to 24 A.D.) The dance was meant to please ancestors and spirits for rain, preventing hunger and sickness. Over hundreds of years, the dance became more of a cultural icon and by 618 A.D. to 1279 A.D. In the Tang and Song dynasties, the dragon dance had become a cultural icon in most festivals.
