I believe that it is still relevant today. The themes of racism and injustice still are very relevant to our society in the US today. Also, I believe it should still be taught in schools unless it can be replaced by a book that deals with racism from a point of view that does not appoint a white hero. If TKAM is removed without a proper replacement, education on racism in the way of literature may be lost. In conclusion, TKAM is still relevant today and should still be taught in schools despite its many inaccuracies and racist premise.

But, it obviously doesn't show how bad racism actually is and for that reason, I don't know if it should still be taught in schools. It doesn't show a complete representaion of what racism is actually like, so it doesn't teach a lesson about it. Therefore, I believe that it's not relevant and it shouldn't be read in schools anymore.

The simple answer is yes it is still relevant. While it is an old book doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have worth. The story and characters are likable enough; However, the most important part is the moral lessons in the book. One of the major ones being not to judge a book by its cover. The book does have it’s flaws but I believe for the most part it’s a good book that has a lot of good learning potential.

I think that it has been taught throughout the years as being a book teaching students racism is not okay, when in reality that’s not what the book teaches us. It shows a white man defending a black man, and all the praise goes to the white man. The black people are portrayed as grateful for Atticus to defend them. I believe that there are better books for teaching about racism and black lives, and this is not one of them.

Although the novel touches on topics still relevant today like, racism and gender stereotypes. The newer generation should not be learning about racism and social injustice from a white perspective. There have been many books in language arts that tell us about racism but its from a white perspective, meaning that it isn’t fully understood by the characters therefore it wouldn’t convey the message as well as seeing it from a person of color perspective. The newer generations should be learning from the perspective that these inequalities is happening to because they have seen the worst of it. That is why To Kill a Mockingbird is not relevant today.

Even though racism today is different than it was in the 1930s, the concept remains the same. It is crucial that schools have this novel in their curriculum because it teaches everyone that not everything is as it seems. The lesson of not judging a book by its cover plays a huge role in how racism even starts. This is why the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee should remain in schools and why it is still a relevant novel after all these years.

With the injustices/
racism that are seen in this day and age, can be compared to the injustices/
racism back then, and in the book. Some people believe that racism today is remarkably different than what is was not too long ago; Which is not necessarily true. This book even though it is written by a white person and it doesn’t capture what black people go through it does give a small example of what racism can be. Although it is written in a white persons point of view and doesn’t give us much insight on what the Tom was thinking, and doing. It does tell us what the white person was think and doing, it does tell us that if from a white persons point of view how terrible it was and how emotional they got so it only makes me wonder how is Tom feeling. We could only imagine the fear he was experiencing the hate and death threats he got from the white people. So my point being that it is relevant because this book not only makes me and I’m sure others think before they speak it also helps me care way more than I did before about racism and injustice.

Racism in books would better be taught by black/POC authors instead of white people in my opinion, since they have first hand experience with it.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is not relevant but I don’t think it should be taken out of schools or libraries because of its message. TKAM has racism in it but doesn’t really show it on a more realistic standpoint. The author of the novel is white so of course it’s not going to show racism in the most accurate way, but still it was lacking systemic racism against blacks. This book was based off of the 30’s so racism and segregation is different nowadays compared to back then. Some parts can teach young children a lesson though. There’s a part in the book where one man was helping a black mans case because he was claimed guilty for something he didn’t do. That was an amazing thing to
understand that all human deserve equality and that we are all human. In conclusion, To Kill a Mockingbird isn’t relevant today but shouldn’t be taken out of libraries and schools.

Jenny Tran
I believe that it is still relevant today since it talks about bias and systematic racism, which is still a problem today. TKAM helps people get more knowledge on one of the many things that black people go through. Although it was written by a white person, they still had a good point. It may not of covered the whole racism topic, it's still presented there. Racism is different today but the book show's us how systematic racism was back then and if much has changed over the years. TKAM can lead us into a more knowledgeable direction to educate ourselves more.

I believe that the novel To Kill A Mockingbird’s representation of racism is still present in today’s world. We are still faced with many problems regarding people’s race and how injustice society is. I think this novel should be taught in schools because it helps us a students to better understand the world and educate ourselves on racism. It also not only points out the racial prejudice, but also includes many overall life lessons and morals beliefs that could be helpful when we as teenagers enter the adult world.

The novel to Kill a Mockingbird is still very relevant today. Since racism is still happening and it’s not only our issue of the past. The book shows the readers her racism was back then educates the readers on racism, classism, and also bias. The lesson behind the book is very important, and so is the topic of racism. This novel should still be in libraries so people can read about the Prejudice that is happening and learn more.

Yes, I believe TKAM is still relevant to today. The book touches on subjects of justice, and equality, and also addresses the unfairness of racism in society. These things are important to learn about to grow as a person. Today, we still have these issues, and with this, I also believe that we should pick a different novel that is actually told by someone experiencing said problems in their life to grasp a better understanding of racism from another perspective.
