- Founded in 1210 by St. Francis of Assisi.
- Their mission was to preach, but by actions.
- Three notable members of the order are Dante, Pio of Pietrelcina, and Roger Bacon.
- 3 parts of history:
 - The first main part of the history is when Francis decided to leave his wealthy life for a humble and poor one.
 - Another important part of their history is when they occupied the Holy Land, which eased relationships with the Muslims.
 - The Franciscans were also persecuted when the papacy was in Avignon. This shows that they are resilient.
- The Franciscan life is one of poverty. They also continue to spread the Good News.
- Franciscans build communities up. They are very close with nature, so some may help with keeping care of God's place.
