Scar leaves early therefore they are alone. They start out fine but when the storm gets angrier teamwork starts to kick in. They have to work together to get down to the bottom floor and also to bring the boxes with frames up to the first floor where it's safe from the leaking water. During this process Thick Fingers and Night Chatterer developed character wise. Thick Fingers stood up against GC and did not allow himself to get bossed around by him. Night Chatterer spoke his first words since Gopal arrived in the shack/workshop. He didn't go back to being quiet though he kept talking occasionally. This led to him saying his name in fear of the storm. Roshan. Gopal received more respect from his friend Rocking Boy but also from Dimpled Chin. They both thought of him as a smaller leader but without really saying it. Gopal also uses his ability to learn from the past to help keep the five boys and himself safe from the storm. While on the other hand GC gets angry and looks for fights to get involved in. I predict that they will all eventually share their names and possibly share some things about their future.                                      

Summary 17: In this chapter Gopal dreams of being in the storm with his family, Aai, Naren, and Sita. At first they play with the water but soon it starts to rise even more. Aai and Gopal try dumping out the water but that doesn't work, so they wait it out. Naren and Sita are lifted up to the stacked mattresses so they don't get wet. Shortly after the rain is gone. The chapter ends by Gopal giving himself some encouragement to escape. I think that this chapter is relevant to the book because it shows how he actually listened to Aai and didn't go get the pan, unlike what he did when he was with Jatin. That his real family was helping him in connecting with those boys. Such as, when Gopal took out the cable from the television to not make a fire and to move off the boxes upstairs so the frames wouldn't get wet. Showing that Gopal's family is helping one way or another and that his real family is helping his "new family". I feel that Gopal is so hard connected to them because I think that Gopal is trying to escape with them and that if he left alone, he would have abandoned them. The chapter also tells us the reader how Thick Fingers kind of became on Gopal's side but made his and GC's relationship worse than ever. Showing hope that if they become friends, they may all have the chance to escape. In chapter 17, it reinforces the boys as Gopal's new family and that just being with them reminds him of his real family. But sometimes becoming the leader from the group of boys. By giving ideas from the problems the rain gave them. This shows that Gopal is evolving to become a leader and is not afraid of GC. I think in the next chapter Gopal will successfully introduce more ideas to his grand escape plan. In chapter 17 Gopal dreams that the rain flooded jamas house. And then wakes up back to see 4 other boys sleeping. This shows that gopal is still a kid who is stressed and worried about ai.

For over a month, there wasn't any hope for them. However, Gopal got braver and had many ideas. For example, he thought of leaving a note to throw outside, so when somebody saw it, they could help them. Another example is that he thought of standing on a ladder and passing the boxes up. This shows us that he is really hoping to get out of this place. 
We know that this took place during the monsoon season so it was raining, and there was thunder, so the lights went out. Luckily, Gopal still had the flashlight that he got from Chachaji. So that's why they could continue.

In chapter 17, Gopal is dreaming about when he was still in Jama's house and when it was raining really hard. When Naren and Sita were playing in the puddles inside the house when it made them. 
He was dreaming this, hoping he could go back to a life like the one he was watching.

By steeling Scar pensil he thinks that will explain what is happening. Things started to change, in which sometimes Gopal  is the leader   and some  of the boys attutude changed. GC is`nt a  eassy person to deal, which is the opposit of Thick fingers.  By the time passes the boys get more confident of Gopal, and It describes more about them and their perspective. They work as a team to get down to the bottom floor and to get boxes. 
Also Night chatter spoke for the first time a word, by showing a character development.

In chapter 17  Gopal dreams with beeing with Naren, Sinta and Aai in a storm.  This demonstraites that he miss a lot them and that what his dream is gettig out of this place. Gopal is Comparing hope s vs dispare/ and dreams vs/ reality.

Floods smash the city, and gopal strikes up on the sweatshop. We learn parts of G.C. personality and his uncontrollable temper. The boys in the sweatshop are faced with a big challenge to overcome as the sweatshop is divided in half. The rain creeps in the shop and they have to do something. We also saw the other side of Thick Fingers, he was calm and didn't want fights. We also saw Gopal go up in the sweatshop hierarchy. Where teamwork starts to pop in. In the tension and in the anxious timing, the boys team up to bring up the boxes of frames up the ladder to the second floor where the frames are safe and away from a drop of rain. As well as teaming up to go up the ladder with the heavy boxes fuel with frames, the boys also teamed up together when they had no ladder to come down. They teamed up and together Gopal and Rocking boy came down with the help of the other boys and then they were able to get the ladder. During the storm many surprising things started to happen. Night chatter that never had spoken a word since Gopal arrived, spoke out his first words, and also out of fear he accidentally blurted out his name, Roshain. Thick fingers surprisingly stud up to GC, and start to protect and be a nicer protective leader, the author also starts to add some clues so thick fingers protective and nicer side to dimple chin and as well to the other boys. 

Summary 17: In chapter 17 as soon as Gopal drifted usleep past and present began to blur. Gopal began to dream about the day that the storm came in pounding and fluding jamas neiborhood, as he was in a bad dream were the rain was pounding on the ceiling and he was shivering cold he was happy in reliving a moment with his Aai and his sister Sita and brother Naren. But in a few minutes the present starts to take up the space of his dream, Gopal tries to close his eyes and forces himself to go back to his dream where he had his family where he had Aai where he was not stuck on this terrible bad nightmare. But he can't, Aai's face is gone.

He thinks of the possibility of stealing Scar's pencil, and with that using writing a note explaining his current disastrous situation. This shows how Gopal is determined, and how his hope for his old lifestyle back is evident. Later, the sky starts to darken, which symbolizes rain. Because of that, the decision to eat a bit earlier is ordered by Thick Fingers. When the boys go down, Gopal's first thought is to search for the pencil. He, unfortunately, is unlucky with that. It impresses me how Gopal's hope continues throughout the book, despite the fact that his ideas seem to always fail. A prediction that I have is that he might lose hope later on, which could be part of his negative character development. When water starts to enter the room, Gopal has the idea of putting the boxes up. This is evidence that Gopal is intelligent, and a problem-solver. Lastly, when the lights go out, Gopal is selfless by taking out his flashlight, as he feels empathetic towards Roshan (Night Chatterer). GC's first thought is that the flashlight is stolen. From this I can infer that Gray Cloud refuses to believe anyone who ends up in the slavery that is child labor, couldn't actually have had a better life before. I can predict that later on in the book, he might share his story, and maybe an explanation on why he is always so arrogant.

Chapter 17 talks about Gopal's dream. In his dream, it refers back to his life in Jama's house. It was about the rain, and what choices he had to take to protect his siblings. I believe that this memory recurred because of his current situation, with the boxes and the rain. However, as he starts to wake up, he remembers that isn't his life, not anymore at least. Now he is stuck, and it's hard to find a way to leave. The dream shows to be a contrast of his old and new life. Also, it relates to the theme "hope vs. despair." His dream symbolizes the hope of a normal life, but as he awakens it shows how, what he considers a normal life, is far from his reality.

Scar left the workshop and left the boys alone overnight. They noticed that it was raining hard and there is water coming into the room. They wanted to save the frames so Scar won’t get mad at them, luckily Gopal has his flashlight to help them go around and save their frames from the water coming in. I believe the theme for this chapter is scary because all of the guys were scared of being in the dark and they were scared of the frames being destroyed.
Chapter 17: This chapter is based on Gopal’s dream. In this dream Gopal remembers the day he and his family were at Jama’s house during the storm, when there also was water seeping into the house. In this dream he remembers all details from that day and remembers how scary it was for him, Naren, Sita and Aai. I believe the theme for this chapter is mysterious because we don’t know he is dreaming but we remember when it happened before. I predict that in the future Gopal will keep on planning his escape and will keep on getting more and more confident in his plan.
