The statement " I'm going to be a woman, not a party member" has a lot of meaning because she is rebelling against the party by being what they hate or fear so much. Being a woman in this society has no real meaning, they strpped feminism away and take any beauty or praise to trivials things like heels or make up. Theya also care a lot of small things the government has taken from them like coffee or bread. Julia and Winston care so much about trivial things because it gives them a sense of power. This are the things they can actually control, by giving these things a meaning they increase the importance of them. I think that this is foreshadowing what mighht happen in the future, giving smalls things a great meaning and using it as a way to rebel against BB.
-Alexis

"I'm going to be a woman... not a party member." These were Julia's words to Winston when she brought coffee, jam and bread to the room. She managed to get these things from the black market along with some makeup she later put on.
After reading this, the following questions rose in my mind: Why did she do this? Why would she risk her life for bread, jam and coffee? This doesn´t require much thougth, the answer is simple: because she cares about small things- the little details that make her happy- that make her feel life is more than work, laws, prohibitions and rules. Curiously, these little details show how her mind works, they show what is important for her...
In contrast with Winston, who is willing to sacrifice himself for the liberty of future citizens, Julia only wants to do what she likes-what she considers worth the risk. By giving a glance at her actions, I try to understand her reasoning. She won't let Ingsoc control her emotons and beliefs- control what defines her.
I think these actions foreshadow how she will react in the future; she will put her emotions before her responsibilities. As a result, we can expect Julia to be stronger than those around her, we can expect her to be firm as long as those things she has put her heart in are not compromised.

This means that she will rebel against the party, she will be a normal women it does not matter if the government have take some privilege out of the women she will be it. She takes coffee and bread to the room, and this stuff were prohibit by the government of the country. The coffee and the bread gave a feel of power to them. Also, it makes them feel human and its a way of rebellion against the government. I think this act of rebellious is foreshadowing that they will rebel in a bigger way, because in the future she will make every little act of rebellious counts to overthrow BB.

She steals bread, jam, and coffee from the government. Bread, Jam and coffee is so important to Julia and Winston because these things give power to them. There are things that they can control they give importance to them. Is a little act of rebellion that give meaning to them. I think There will be more and more acts like these and one day the government will recognize them as a Danger to Big Brother

“I’m going to be a woman...not a party member…” I think that what Julia meant by that was that in that room she will be more feminine, she’ll be her true self, a real woman, since the party doesn’t let her fully do that. She painted her face, her appearance was starling and she looked far more feminine. I believe that the small things of life, the trivial things make them happy human beings and gives them a security to feel complete. By doing something ‘‘normal’’ they may feel ordinary. Simply enjoying each other, and living. When they were lying in bed Winston for a moment asked himself if in the past it had been a normal experience to lie in bed like he and Julia were in that moment. I think this is a foreshadowing of things that will come in the future for them. Julia is young and impulsive. Both of them are eager to rebel themselves they are pursuing a future steeped in freedom, that will only be possible if they bring Big Brother down.

They know that this is not correct and that they might have problems in the future, but they do not really care. Julia buys coffee, sugar and bread from the black market. When she was in the room, she applied some make up. This means that she wanted to be herself for once, she recognized that in this room she can be someone she has not been in a while because of the party. They do not allow them to be who they want to be. I think that she might want to rebel to finally be the person that she really is, and not the one that the party tells them to be.

She brought real coffee, bread and sugar; the ones the Inner Party uses. Winston and Julia does know that those things could cause problems, but they don’t really care. I think Julia says this because she wants to be herself and not be controlled by the party anymore. When she put some make up on, I think she felt as if she was a different person, who only cares about herself and would not let the Party control her. This expression also makes me feel that Julia is selfish and does not care if the other citizens will continue to be controlled by the government. I think this rebellious act foreshadows more rebellious acts that they will commit, maybe they will buy things that are not legal or commit other type of rebellious act.
-Elsa

The paper weight represent the love of Winston and Julia, that this love will be until the eternity. When Julia use makeup I thing that she feel a different person, and she want to be a different person. The lyrics of the song that the prole was singing where created by a versificator, a machine that write songs with out intervention of human. this song represent the love of Winston and Julia, because when Winston start singing the song Julia finish the phrases. This acts are of rebellion against the government because they are doing a lot of illegal things.-Hector

When Julia said “I am going to be a woman… not a party member” we clearly see someone who is tired of being controlled by the government. The government has taken out all of the women’s feminism they cannot use make up o high heels. Basic things a women does were prohibited for women in this book. This is why all the things she brought to the room were called “trivial things” because the government made people believe that these were trivial things, and the citizens bought that lie, like all the other ones. These things are very important to Winston and Julia because it is like a little act of rebellion. I think that Winston and Julia know that little acts may lead to something big and important, like a rebellion. This is foreshadowing because we see how Winston and Julia use their meetings to rebel. For now we only see a small act of rebellion, but after a couple of meetings and acts of rebellion they may come together to do something big against the government.

So she took some food like bread and coffee to meet Winston. Julia only demonstrates the only thing she wants is to be free and feel like a normal woman.
I think what she means with this is that being a party member isn’t enough for her. I bet she’s tired of the same thing, lying to the proles, helping the government cheat on the people. She isn’t really living her life, she doesn’t get to do woman stuff because everything is illegal. I think she would like to start living as an ordinary woman, one who brings food home, wears make-up, one that has a place she can call home. Winston has similar thoughts about this, the time they have been together has made them realize how nice it feels to be loved and it has made them wish for more. If things were different, they would to live in a family, to be free from their miserable routines. I think this are deep wishes, that so far we’ve seen, they had been rebellious about having sex, I think they are capable into give this a try. Maybe, if the government still doesn’t figure them out they will try to move further into their relationship. Right now, I think they are truly starting to feel things about each other.

I think Winston feels exactly what Julia is feeling that both of them are tired of being party members and they are feeling love and this will be the way that they will reveal against the government they will reveal by loving each others and having sex at the time they want therefore in order to do this is why Winston decides to rent an apartment.
