this is the first shop i visited, knowing this will be my low end shop within the comp shop for the main project. First a knit pyjama set which i then compare to similar products in other shops

then i found a woven set of pyjamas to compare with similar items in other stores. Primark met my expectations of the lowest prices and quality of garments. Although the quality was still and a good standard dispite this

again looking for both a knitted and woven set of pyjamas from next ( my main chosen shop for the project) However, i could only find knitted sets in store. this means i’ll be looking on like for a woven set. but overall prices are higher than primark as expected and quality slightly better although not much between them

I had to look through many of these to find a store which fit my criteria of pyjamas because many stores i originally planned to look at either had a very limited selection of sleepwear or no sleepwear section at all. These included Allsaints, Tommy Hilfiger, Skims and burberry.
i finally found a brand suitable in selfridges called Chanti & Parker

trip to V&A Diva exhibition

I had already looked into going to this exhibition before so i was very excited to see it. I was really impressed with the unique presentation of it all and the immersive experience

Diva History

The bottom floor of the exhibition was dedicated to the rise and development of “Diva”. It had some key pieces and sketches of different garments which represented the diva eras.

Headphones

throughout the exhibition we wore headphones which automatically linked and played relavent music to what you would be looking at. I’ve never seen this elsewhere so it was a unique experience and by far the best part.

Famous Divas

The upstairs of the exhibition showed many famous musicians and faces and some of their iconic garments worn by them. They provided alot of information on each one. as you moved from person to person the headphones played one of their songs

white shirt reconstruction

i’ve begun to reconstruct the white shirt, i made a mistake by sewing up the arm hole too small which i have now unpicked and repaired. I found it difficult to visualise what the shirt should become, however after a catch up with a classmate it was much clearer and i now feel confident i can finish the shirt without mistakes

this is an image of a seam i’ve created, i feel happy with how it looks and it is straight so i am happy with it

we began to sketch different darts

this helped to begin understanding how darts work and what they achieve. i learnt how to sketch these and what what shapes you can make by only folding and moving the straight fabric. you can create curves and you must place the darts in certain areas which i feel i now have a good understanding on. I found the sketching a little difficult so i need to improve this

I think the key takeaway from this talk which I feel is most relevant at the moment is the difference this technology will make towards becoming more sustainable. If all companies and manufacturers can use this virtual development then a huge difference will be made in terms of helping the environment.

one good thing about being in the heart of london is that we can visit these pop up shops during breaks. This was a fun visit to see what the shop was about. the staff were very friendly and there was a lot to look at and do.

doing this from home i found more difficult because by sewing machine isn’t as smooth or high tech as the ones in college, i also didn’t have peers or my tutor to ensure i am doing the correct job however i am confident with what i have so far
