Differences in religion can be a source of stress for some children as this has an overlapping element in culture. In some countries, women are required to cover their faces and bodies and have restricted interactions with the opposite gender. When they move to another country, they will be put in place entirely different from what they are used to. When the structure, routine and ways of living are changed, children do not have the mental and emotional capacity to adjust to it by themselves, hence needing the help of supportive adults.

The change in structure can bring stress not only to the child but to the other adult family members as well; when their interactions with workmates, neighbors and friends do not match the social, religious, cultural beliefs and practices that they had in their home countries.

The need for stability is not exclusive to children. They draw energy from adults, therefore as much as adults can, we should provide them the security they need, and explain to them the changes in their lives. In a developmentally appropriate manner, adults should give them the assurance that they have families and other people who can help them get through difficult times together. It is likewise important for them to know that they are also the source of strength of others.

Families are responsible to create a secure and meaningful environment for children to thrive in but at times unexpected circumstances and struggles within the family destroy the harmony and balance in a child’s life that leads to stress and vulnerability.

Furthermore, another substantial aspect that can cause stress in a child’s life can be relocation. Coming from a diverse cultural background, the need to be accepted, understand cultural values, making new friends can add significant stress too.
In addition, the following are some more reasons that can generate stress.
Reference:
Essa & Burnham (2020) Introduction to Early Childhood Education (8th ed.)

Divorce strains the family emotionally, and it can be particularly traumatic and stressful for kids. Since young children should constantly be with their mothers, youngsters may lose contact with one parent, usually the father. They might be worried that if their parents can become estranged, maybe one day they will too. Children worry that they are responsible for the divorce. They might believe they have done something wrong. Divorce also affects the relationship a child has with the parent who has custody of them. When single parenting is involved, the stress levels of primary caregivers are typically higher. Not all youngsters may find the hardest part of parental separation as they will hear fewer arguments and less stress to them. Instead, what makes divorce the most difficult is the anxieties that go along with it. Moving, switching schools, cohabiting with a single parent who is a little more anxious, and other pressures are among the additional stressors that make divorce difficult. Financial issues follow divorce rather frequently. Families usually have to downsize or move, and they frequently have less money.

The Psychological Effects of Divorce on Children.
