Using some ideas from The Anti-Racist Writing Workshop I introduced four elements of author's craft (voice, imagery, characterization, flow) at the start of the year and have been practicing them with every piece of lit we've read thus far. It's been really cool to see the student's understanding grow! This semester we added foreshadowing, irony, symbolism, and conflict to our discussion of author's craft. -JHK
