In Ratliff's "Every Song Ever" chapter 14 "Eyeball to Eyeball: Closeness" he defines closeness as "the sound of closeness -- two or more musicians, or musical elements, acting in the purest coordination -- tends to escape us because we can't see us ... Closeness is developed over time, and its value to the ear is absolute". I agree with Ratliff's point of view and take on the musical element closeness because I feel like it can be unappreciated because you can not physically see it, so some people might not pay attention to it because they can not see it. Some people are visual people who believe only what they can see with their own eyes if they can not see it it must not exist, which is not always true, but that is how they see it. "We R Who We R" by Kesha is in Ratliff's playlist examples that exemplifies his definition of closeness by the sound and energy of the song and hoe it draws the audience in.
