  • The US and the USSR went head to head often. They were both very competitive teams.
  • The US was often weaker than the Soviets. The US's pro players couldn’t play, unlike in the Soviet Union which found loopholes.
  • The 2 countries were already at odds. Many of these head-to-head battles become symbolic, with the war going on outside of sports.

    3. There is still a large rivalry between the US and its allies and Russia. Currently, Vladimir Putin is at ends with the US leaders which we still see pour over into the Olympics.
