At this time Elizer and his family were forced to move to the small ghetto leaving everything they had behind.

This moment connects to the theme of Family Loyalty and Obligations, because Eliezer didn't know what or why this was happening and he was feeling a full emotional weight of the situation. Even thought Eleizer felt this way he didn't want to cry because he knew that his family was also feeling this way so he wants to stay loyal and strong for his family. This changes Eliezer emotionally because he is beggining to face the brutality of the holocaust and he decides not to cry and suppress his feelings as a way of coping with the trauma.

Eliezer and his family were being transported in cattles cars to the concentration camps. On the way Mrs. Schacter was screaming fire and people thought that she was screaming fire because she was separated from her husband and her other 2 kids, and because she was screaming to much, many people started beating her up because they wanted her to be quiet.

This moment connects to the theme of Individual Survival vs The Collective Good because at this moment the prisoners prioritize their fear and their desire for silence over compassion and empathy. This event shows Eliezer that people have to do things including bad things to stay safe and survive. Now Eliezer knows that to survive he needs to stop caring as much for other people and to stay focused on himslef.

When Eliezer is standing in line with his father he sees smoke rising from the crematoriums, and they see pits of fire where babies and children are being thrown and burned alive.

This event connects with the theme of Struggle with Religious Faith because Eliezer being only a teenager has to witness the murder of innocent kids. When he says "under a silent sky" he starts questoning the existence of a just and merciful god in which he has faith in. He feels abandonded by his God because he has become silent in these moments of people doing evil things. This is where he starts loosing his faith as he faces the cruelty of the camps.

Eliezer was witnessing the hanging of the "Pipel" a little boy with the face of an angel in distress. They had to hang him because they accussed him of sabotage to the Nazi forces. His death was slow and disturbing because of his small size.

In the crowd someone behind Eliezer that once belived in God asked "Where is God?"

This moment connects to the theme of Struggle with reliugous faith because he struggles to maintain his faith. There is so much cruelty in these camps and Eliezer has never seen such things as the distrubing death of the pipel, and now prisiners are also struggling with their faith. They also struggle with keeping their faith because they have been taught that God is merciful and many good things about God. Eliezer hears other people struggle with their faith so he start thinking about his own and also starts to struggle with his faith.

Yom Kippur is an important Jewish holiday and in this holiday they had to fast and adore their God, but Eliezer didn't want to fast because he was mad at his God for all his suffering.

This event connects with the theme of Struggle with Religous Faith because Yom Kippur is such an important holiday for the Jews, and they had to fast around this time. Instead Elizer didn't fast and was mad at his god. He was really struggling with his faith but at this point he just realized that his God just wasnt here with him anymore and he lost all his faith in his God. His dad told him not to fast sense they only recieved a little food at the camps so fasting would only kill him. He also didnt fast becuase he was mad at his god for all the traumatizing things he has lived and seen.

Eliezer sees Rabbi Eliahu looking for his son, then Eliezer starts to realize that Rabbi Eliahu's son saw his dad but wanted to abandon him thats when Eliezer fears he might do this to his father to.

I think that this event connects to the theme of Individual Survival vs The Collective Good because many other jews in this camp prefered their own life vs helping others like Rabbi Eliahu's son. He wanted to get rid of his dad, and thats what the Nazi's wanted to do to the Jews make them forget and not care about their families. At this time is when Eliezer gets haunted by the fear that he might also want to leave his father in order for him to survive, and he starts feeling this pressure in his shoulder because he has to take care of his dad.

In the journey on a train to Buchenwald many Jews were starving, so what the Nazi's did was to throw a piece of bread in the middle of the train and Elizer had to witness a son murder his dad over a piece of bread.

This moment connects to the theme of Individual Survival vs The Collective Good because when the prisoners fight over a piece of bread and even a son killing his own dad shows us how compassion and love are shattered under the pressure of starvation and brutality. By this event Eliezer starts feeling the same way too he realizes that helping others means to sacrifice one's own life. He starts feeling this way and his love for his dad changes in a way because he still needs to help his father meaning he could also loose his life while doing so.

Despite the tries to make his dad survive, at the end Eliezer's dad died due to starvation, and several blows to the head he recieved by an SS officer.

This moment connects to the theme of Family Loyalty and Obliagtions because at the beggining of the book Elizer cared and loved his father and even sacrifices his own well-being. As his father starts getting really sick Eliezer begins to struggle with his emotions because he felt the need to help, protect, and care for his father. He also felt weight on his shoulders wishing he could only take care of himself. When his dad died he openly states that he felt free from the weight on his shoulders symbolizing that he cared more for his own life vs his fathers life. Then we see that he focuses on his own survival.

After the camp is finally liberated by American forces Eliezer is taken to the hospital and in this hospital he decides to look at himslef in the mirror, and all he sees is a corpse gazing back at him.

This moment connects to the theme of Family Loyalty and Obligations because Eliezer's dad played a huge role in his life during the concentration camps, and after the death of his father he feels numb and no longer has the strength to keep on fighting for his survival showing us how tied he was with his father and his family, that now he has a void left by them. When Eliezer decides to look at himself in the mirror The person he sees in the mirror profoundly has been changed, not just phsically but emotianlly and spiritually.
