Although this is a fictionalized account, Moses includes a foreword about slavery and an author's note about Harriet's life.

This book not only highlights the perseverance and dedication the women had, but also teaches young Black girls that they are capable of doing great things if they push through the obstacles they will face and demand respect for themselves.
