I love this story it would be a lesson for students to learn to be open to new cultures different from their own. I like how the author used the name jar to "break the ice," in the story. How the story played out to help Unhei feel accepted through the name jar and how the students wanted to show her that they found Korean nicknames for their own to be added to the jar. I could incorporate this as an activity of a name jar of different names the students could pick that they would add to the jar.

Children's book by Karen Katz. This book is a great read, colorful. I would use this book in my classroom to read to my class and we could do a learning activity of students making their own self portrait using different shades of brown. I like what the mom says to her daughter Lena on their walk in the neighborhood about everyone being a different shade of brown. I love how the daughter uses her creativity of her perspective of how everyone's shade resembles food. I really love how this book colorfully and beautifully celebrates cultural differences.

A tale of a young boy who learns about diversity through a magical adventure. I love the beautiful display of pictures of what children are doing all over the world in one day. The diverse culture of the lives of children across the world captured through a lens. This book would be great to start conversations about how all over the world we are all different and come from different cultures, yet we have a connection, self awareness and learning about the world around us.

I like this book because it shares the El Salvador Spanish culture by naming things in Spanish by each letter of the Spanish Alphabet. This book I could follow along and have as a read aloud on the overhead for the students to learn the letter sounds of the Spanish alphabet.

I loved how the Spanish text is mixed into the story. It's a good story to teach the students new Spanish words.

I love how the text starts out in the beginning with stating, "Water is the first Medicine, and that we came from water. Water nourishes us in our mother's body as it nourishes us here on Mother Earth. Water is sacred." This story has a folktale take on it with the setting symbolizing certain civil injustices toward our land. Like how the Author uses the black snake to symbolize the injustices of how the white man is treating the water and land here on earth. And the text that says, "We stand for those who can't stand for themselves." I would read this book to my students, and talk to them about ways we could protect our water, and how we should preserve it and keep it clean.
