My Vision

As a school counselor I want to provide an atmosphere of trust. To build rapport with the students and staff that I serve. I want to create an environment of equality, by providing students with all of the tools they will need to make them more successful.

Explain some basic core beliefs you have of students and their ability to achieve.

I believe that all students are capable of learning, it’s a choice whether they embrace the ability. I also believe that all students will not learn on the same learning path as others, and accommodations are needed. I firmly believe that learning is not a one size fits all type of learning. I believe that students have to buy into learning, that means if educators whether they be teachers or counselors don’t buy into the program neither will our students.

Describe your understanding of the school counselor’s role as an advocate for every student and a promoter of systemic change based on the ASCA National Model.

I understand that counselors advocate for every student. Being able to advocate for all students counselors must utilize collaboration and effective communication. According to the ASCA National Model (ASCA, 2019)” School counselors have an essential and unique role in promoting, facilitating and advocating for collaboration with parents/guardians and community stakeholders”.

Describe how you will consult and collaborate with other stakeholders to support your work.

I would ensure that I always have an open line of communication. I also believe that by including other’s perspectives will allow me to be much more effective as a school counselor.

How the ASCA Ethical Standards and guidelines will shape your work with students and other stakeholders?

The ASCA standards will help me to ensure that I maintain all of the ethical standards that are required of me. It will also help me maintain a productive and positive school culture.
