1. As a result of these "romantic" rituals that Tituba gathered the girls to perform, the first cycle of witch accusations begins to go around, then leading to the arrests. Had the rituals not taken place, Reverend Parris would not have had anywhere to place the blame of all the strange occurrences and would have just chalked it up to an illness. The only reason Parris felt the need to call on Reverend Hale, an expert in witchcraft and dark "magic", was because he already had witchcraft in mind as the cause of the night-dancing.

2. Because Tituba confessed and then accused Sarah Good and Goody Osborne, they were both arrested for witchcraft. However, since Sarah Good confessed, she was not executed, at least not before she died in jail. Goody Osborne, on the other hand, was hanged for her crimes of witchcraft.

1. Since Betty gets sick after the girls are caught dancing in the woods, the village's Puritan leaders decide that it is the result of these rituals going wrong. In reality, Betty must have eaten something that had gone bad or the stress of both being caught by her father and Abigail pressuring her to keep their secrets by threatening her must have gotten to be too much for little Betty to handle.

2. After they are caught in the woods, Betty accuses her cousin, Abigail Williams of witchcraft and of drinking animal blood for a ritual. This then gives Abigail the same power that Betty had to accuse, but the difference was that the accusations that Abigail made had no evidence nor backing.

1. Abigail Williams is a teenage girl. Not to offend teenage girls in any way, but we get very jealous, emotional, and possessive. It is simply a fact of our brain chemistry. So, when John Proctor gets caught by his wife, Elizabeth, and decides to break off their affair, Abigail feels vengeful. While she took it WAYYYY too far, I understand why she was so upset.

2. Abigail decides to take it upon herself to get rid of Elizabeth Proctor so that she can have John all to herself. She has Mary Warren make a poppet/doll, and then sticks a needle right into the stomach. Mary Warren then takes the now-impaled-doll to give to Elizabeth. Later, when Abigail stabs herself in the stomach with a needle, she knew exactly where to put it in order to get Elizabeth in the most suspicious situation, which then leads to Elizabeth's arrest.

1. Mary Warren is not exactly a strong-willed girl. She's a people-pleaser, so when Abigail needs a "favor", she happily obliges. Because Mary planted the poppet in the Proctors' home, Elizabeth was then arrested for voodoo/witchcraft.

2. Had Mary not gone to court on the fateful day that Goody Osborne was sentenced to hanging, John Proctor would not have gotten so upset with her. Maybe if he had a longer temper, Mary would not have been as inclined to back up Abigail and plant the poppet on Elizabeth.

1. Ann Putnam was a very jealous woman. Initially she was jealous of Rebecca Nurse because Rebecca had many, healthy children, and Ann had only one, healthy child. Because of this difference in fertility, Ann accuses Rebecca of witchcraft which leads to her execution.

2. Also because of her fertility issues, which are nobody's fault in particular, Ann Putnam further backs the "court's" claim that both Goody Osborne and Sarah Good were guilty of witchcraft. Because both had served as a midwife for the Putnam's, Ann blamed the two, in open court, of killing her children with their bare hands.
