This shows how rain on the gentle uplands drains through the soil into the valley floors. Lands used before they were cleared the woodland trees that once covered this place used the water brought by rains but for cleared lands for farming, there aren’t as many trees and so then the water table begins to rise. When this water rises, it carries salts that were stored underground.
