The kids in the family didn't have a strong bond with their mother and they pretty much did whatever they wanted, Pearl who had never been exposed to anything like this before such as parties, drinking, etc. felt very out of place. She would hang out with the daughter of the family and throughout the book got heavily influenced by her actions. Later on in the book Pearl goes to her first high school party and that is the point in the book where we find that Pearl is no longer a sweet girl that loves spending time with her mom, but instead a crazy high school girl who goes out partying with her friends on weekends.

I knew that I always wanted to be a lawyer, however I never knew that I would become one for death row inmates. That moment when I first walked into death row, my views and morals completely changed. I had always believed death row was not morally right, however I didn't realize I believed it to this degree. Throughout his childhood and throughout his whole life he went and endured through acts of racism. For Kareem, race determined his identity. He lost his best friend just based off of who he identifies as. Additionally, religion determined who he identified as. Throughout most of his childhood, Kareem was Christian. As he learned more and more about racism and what your identity really is, he researched different religions. Unfortunately, where his dad was from You weren't allowed to be black, and where his mom is from you weren't allowed to be white. At one point, Trevor went to a school that accepted all races, but the friend groups weren't very diverse, each group was usually all one race. Trevor had to decide between being in a white friend group or a black friend group. In this civil war, Both side commit atrocities and recruit children to kill others. I think that in this case, there is no right or wrong side, and I think sometimes it doesn't matter. All you can do is believe in one group until they eventually win or lose, and the winning side gets to choose what's right and what's wrong. I think that sometimes the right side isn't always the preferred side, and sometimes the right side isn't the right side. For example, Jeevin is a Punjabi kid who practices Sikh fiath. This effects even small things, like him wearing a Kara, (one of the five K's), to his pre game ritual. Many players have different pre game rituals, but Jeevin's is very connected to his faith, and where his family come from. He says a prayer in punjabi, and then one in English, to show the importance of every part of where he comes from. He touches his heart in his ritual, to represent respect, that is close with his culture. Therefore she lives with her grandmother in Philadelphia. Emoni loves to cook and it is also a big part of who she is. she often doesn't use recipes and just "goes with the flow" with her cooking.
