Goodmorning my fellow students and teachers, thank you for coming to listen to me. Today I stand in front of you to propose an idea to better our school. This week I read two articles both which stated their contrary perspectives on having a student council in the school , and I'm here to inform you on what these articles are about. The first article was taken from a local newspaper which was from a teacher giving his thoughts on having a student council. Mr Aziz strongly believes that having a student council does more harm than good. He states that , students that are involved in the student council have a hard time submitting their assignments on time as with the student council comes a lot of planning and discussion. Mr Aziz also believes that having a student council is a waste of time as he thinks students shouldn't get involved in matters the teachers are supposed to handle and that they should focus on their education instead. Article 2 was a passage written by a teacher that firmly believes students should have a say in certain decisions being made. Article 2 believes that allowing students to be apart of school changing decisions helps hone their decision making , communicating and negotiation skills. Article 2 also states that giving students the opportunity to participate in real school issues such as being responsible for bullying and the behaviour of students , they also state that young students notice and understand certain actions before teachers.

Me being a student I strongly agree with article 2 and think that the implementation of having a student council can give the students a chance to feel responsible and help them understand issues from a teachers standpoint. Not only does this give us a feeling of responsibility but it also acts as a way students can give their inputs on certain decisions made by the school which grows the communication between teachers and students. Students and teachers growing a connection or a bond between each other can also help in the education process of school as this better helps the students be comfortable with asking questions and gives them the confidence to voice their own opinion in matters.

Hello and good afternoon everyone, thank you for taking a minute of your time to listen. I am proposing an idea as I have read two very different articles about the individuals and their opinions on the same matter. First and foremost, what is my opinion on it? But before we get into that, what are the benefits and the drawbacks of the student council? Well the first drawback is having to give the kids too much freedom in their hands, which could lead to disaster. The benefit of having the student council's freedom will allow the school to evolve via the help of the students. Another benefit of having the student council to have complete freedom is to help with the students' weak points, allowing the teachers to work on those parts specifically. Although it is brought to our attention by Mr.Aziz that the student council may be able to cause havoc, but I believe by giving the support and attention they need we can avoid any catastrophes. It has been shown times over again that with recent research, if a school places the involvement of their students at the heart of everything they do and as the teacher number one priority, the benefits and opportunities for them, and for the school, are significantly increased.

Now for the things that I disagree on with the council, which is the drawbacks of the whole operation.

As a student of a very academic oriented school I disagree with the idea of having a student council. We as students already have a lot to deal with and having to be involved with decisions that are made by the higher council of school is none of our concern. Us students shouldn't have to be held responsible for actions that are supposed to be dealt by the school , we should be more concerned about our academics and the submission of our assignments. Teacher from other schools that have implemented the idea of student council have said that these events and meetings that are held by the student council are most likely going to delay their submission of assignments as they have a lot on their plate to deal with. Being involved in a student council also requires you to be smart in your decision making and making a mistake holds you responsible for what happens in school. Most students that participate in a council are more likely to be stressed with all the workload they have to deal with.
