Kenny knew that black people weren't liked by whites but he never knew the lengths they would go to to. I know this because after the bombing, Kenny realized that white people would do anything to get rid of black people. For a while Kenny was in shock, but then someone "pulled the plug" that made him realize how horrible the things that he saw were. Kenny shows this by breaking down in the bathroom with Byron after he got back to flint. When Joey's church was bombed he realized how mean and brutal people can and are able to be. Kenny didn't realize how much damaged that the bombing caused to families and people. When Kenny saw this he was in shock and confused that someone would do such a thing. Crying with Byron helped Kenny get over how shocking this was to him. Kenny also changed his perceptions on Byron. At the beginning of the book Kenny saw Byron as his mean older brother who always tricked him. At the end after Birmingham Kenny enjoyed when Byron let him cry all over By. Kenny now thinks that By can be a nice and loving boy and loves his siblings even when he doesn't always show it.

At the end he kind of took advantage of Byron and went to the landing anyway. 
Kenny's perception on the bombings and segregation that was going on. At the beginning he didn't seem to understand it. Then when he went to Birmingham he heard about the church bombing and he went to the church. He was upset and we saw a side of him we never saw before. He was in shock and I think he started to really understand it. He really understands racism and that some whites don't like.
Kenny's perceptions on Byron have changed because he sat with him and cried.
